Transfer window changes

Juventus CEO Giuseppe Marotta says Serie A's 20 clubs are in agreement to "set the end of the transfer window on Jul 31" in Italy. "The transfer window is exhausting," he said recently. "It's become a circus."

But the German league (DFL) said there was no clear consensus among the Bundesliga's top clubs.

"The theme of the transfer window - regardless of the decision of the Premier League - was on the agenda of today's general meeting of sports representatives of the Bundesliga and the second Bundesliga at the DFL, and it became clear that there is no definitive opinion among the clubs," said a DFL spokesman.

How could the PL enforce that? It makes sense that buying and selling end at the same time, but that has to be imposed by FIFA.

Agreed on both. PL clubs have 25 man squads plus youth players. I suppose exceptions could be made if there were an extremely unusual number of injuries, similar to the GK exception now.

I'd only allow loans of players from a clubs academy. If clubs couldn't loan out young players they would lose the incentive to develop players. But if you buy someone they they play or sit. The latter would discourage clubs hoovering up loads of young players.

Agreed in principle. I'd allow a change of manager but only from within or of a manager without a job since the start of the season (as with players now). Poaching of managers from other clubs should not be allowed during the season (including January). Nothing is more important to a club than the management and other clubs should not be able to interfere because they have more money. It's one thing for a club to disrupt their own season, another to disrupt someone elses.

FIFA just say you need to have one 12-week and one 4-week window. Individual countries then determine their own. England, Germany, Italy, France and Spain have just traditionally aligned theirs at June-August. Brazil's for example though runs January–March.
 
That's only for registering players, though, isn't it? You can still sell abroad after the window shuts. For instance, there was speculation about Barcelona making another bid for Countinho after our window closed. The window for registering players in Spain was still open.

Yeah - Spain for some reason just started and ended theirs a day late this year (due to public holidays or something)

That's why Janssen has just gone to Turkey now, because they have a different window to the Western Europe one.

I read a story this morning where we look like going back for Ross Barkley due to concerns over Demeble and Wanyama. The question I ask is, do we have to wait until Jan 1st (or probably in our case Jan 31st), to thrash out a deal?

Premier League: Summer transfer window expected to change

Premier League clubs are expected to make changes to the summer transfer window to bring it in line with the rest of Europe.

For the past two seasons, the window in England closed the day before the top-flight campaign began.

However the deadline for most of Europe is the end of August, leading clubs to say they are at a disadvantage.

The matter will be discussed when senior officials of all 20 Premier League clubs meet on Thursday.

The transfer window was moved to the start of August in England following complaints from clubs and managers that keeping it open after the start of the season was disruptive.

It was hoped major leagues across Europe would also bring their own windows forward.

However, that did not happen and a number of clubs found themselves in the uncomfortable position of knowing their players were in demand across the continent but unable to bring in replacements for anyone they wanted to sell.

On Thursday, the clubs could decide to keep the window as it is, but this is thought to be unlikely.

If they opt for a change, it would either be to revert back to the end of August, in line with the rest of Europe, or split the window so it closes domestically before the season starts while remaining open for international deals.

victims manager Jurgen Klopp has previously voiced his support for bringing the closure of the summer transfer window in line with the rest of Europe.

"I don't care when it closes, but it must close at the same time," he said in September. "They spoke about finishing it before the season starts. Good idea, but only England did it. That makes no sense. It was a good idea but it didn't work out."

In addition, the clubs will decide the date for the opening weekend of the 2020-21 season with both the finals of Euro 2020 and the Copa America on 12 July.

Following a YouGov report published on Tuesday which said 74% of fans wanted the video assistant referee (VAR) retained with some modifications, referees' chief Mike Riley will give an update on the system.

He will present the findings of research aimed at gauging opinion from a broad spectrum of fans, both those who attend matches and others who watch games on television.

Dates for summer 2020 transfer window agreed

Window will open for 10 weeks from 27 July to 5 October with domestic-only window for EFL clubs until 11 October

Premier League Shareholders have agreed on the dates for the summer 2020 transfer window.

The window will open for 10 weeks at the end of the current Premier League season, starting on 27 July and ending on 5 October.

Following consultation with the EFL, a domestic-only window will be added from 5 October, closing 17:00 BST on 16 October.

During this window, Premier League clubs will only be able to trade with EFL clubs (either loans or permanent registrations).

No transfers can take place between Premier League clubs in this period.

The transfer window is subject to the approval of FIFA.
