He'll have to take a pay cut then, news said earlier he's on 1m a week, plus 25m loyalty payments, plus 16m image rights and 9m for something else I've forgotten but about 100M - not sure if pounds or euros but expect euros.
I don't care how good he is any club dumb enough to offer that can have him - I'd guess he'd bring in a lot in merchandise and shirts but not enough to cover that.
Wouldn't surprise me if he joins Beckhams team in Miami eventually but think he wants one more CL first.
The Messi issue for me, is the same as the Bale issue, that is residual value due to age .. in 2-3 years you would have spent a lot, but on the back end likely to get very little.
Depends on how you look at it .. (because he's claiming he's "free")
- Let's say 100M/yr for 2 years = 200M
- vs. a top level player of 120M + wages for two years
The commercial opportunities would definitely go up, it would buy a ton of free media, add a bunch of plastics.

I find it funny that no one ever mentions he's on performance-enhancing drugs. It could work both ways: they keep him going for longer, smashing out performances until he's 40! Or they might have taken their toll on his joints?
Is he still? Or are you talking about the growth hormones he took as a kid?
Barca are tight-lipped as to whether he has top-ups, which are medically not uncommon for his condition I believe. They don't rule it out or in.
What condition? Also, Growth hormones have little to no effect once you are past puberty. I went to several extensive examinations and tests to see if I needed growth hormones when I was around 10-13 years old, as I was very short for my age. I know quite a bit about the subject.Barca are tight-lipped as to whether he has top-ups, which are medically not uncommon for his condition I believe. They don't rule it out or in.

OK. Speculation then.
Then it has to be something other than growth hormones, because the body loses its ability to do anything with growth hormones after puberty. Once you are past puberty, you can inject as much growth hormones as you wish. It won't have any positive effect. Quite the opposite.Isn't HGH a banned performance-enhancing substance? Cyclists commonly abuse it don't they?

I don't know if Messi has some other kind of condition that requires medication, but in that case, it will be well documented, especially if it requires medication that is on the wada doping list, and he will have a certificate that allows him to take it.
As I said, for normal people without GH deficiency, there is little to no benefit from taking it.https://www.health.harvard.edu/diseases-and-conditions/growth-hormone-athletic-performance-and-aging
HGH doping and athletic performance
Adults who are GH deficient get larger muscles, more energy, and improved exercise capacity from replacement therapy. Athletes work hard to build their muscles and enhance performance. Some also turn to GH.
GH did not produce measurable increases in either strength or exercise capacity. And the subjects who got GH were more likely to retain fluid and experience fatigue than were the volunteers who got the placebo.
