Transfer speculation

1 Ben Brereton at Nottingham Forest.....17 year old striker, played around 9 or 10 games so far. Great physique already, goals, assists. One to watch

2 Ryan Sessegnon

3 Youri Tielemans

young kids, perfect to work with Poch who will improve them.

...............

Lots of talk about Zaha but he will cost a fortune. Palace will demand over 40-50 mill in todays market before they even think about selling, and the player himself will be after 100k a week. Id rather that kind of investment be spent on upgrading contracts for the likes of Alli, Eriksen, Lamela and maybe even give Harry another pay rise.

keep our best players and bring in the next rising stars. That is and should continue to be our model in the coming years.

Barkley's off-field antics are creating even more parallels with David Dunn.

Absolute gonads

The bloke got punched by a taco to get attention

You pluck some stuff out mate you really do

We should have flogged Ledley multiple times as he got smashed on half a pint and got in some scrapes

Lack of footballing intelligence is I think the common thread.

Poch by-and-large seems to understand the necessity of intelligence alongside physicality (although the Sissoko signing still baffles and haunts me).
What do you mean by footballing intelligence? What have you noticed in Barkley and Zaha that leads you to the idea that they lack this?

Zaha in particular I think has started to demonstrate very good intelligence this season. I thought his contribution in Palace's win against Chelsea was a case in point here.

I think Barkley is less clear cut here, sometimes he will spot and play an excellent through ball, but sometimes he will hold onto the ball too long. I haven't watched enough of him to know whether it is because he doesn't see the bigger picture or it is because he doesn't trust certain players he is playing alongside.

Won't Zaha only have a year to go on his contract at Palace this Summer? I think he will be 30 to 35 million which is a fair price really.

if he has a year left then of course the price should come down. However even 30-35 mill plus the huge wages is too big an investment on a player who no matter how much he has improved this season would still struggle to get into our current best team

Its a lot to spend on a bench warmer. If we want that kind of player (pace and tricks) then Bruma at Galatasaray would be the wiser option imo. Financially makes more sense and i actually think he has a bit more in game football intelligence compared to Zaha.

Buying a player from abroad to be a bench warmer who likely wouldn't get enough time on the pitch to adapt to the league and so isn't likely to show the best of himself would be a better option than someone who is already proven in the league and settled in London?

Pretty much any player that we sign is likely to be a bench warmer if our entire first choice 11 are fit. That is the sort of level that we are now at and we don't really have the financial muscle or the pull to attract the players who are regarded as a cut above our first team.

That is an interesting claim on Bruma. How much have you seen of him? Can he play both sides? Can he play through the middle? Is he equipped to deal with the pace and physicality of the Premier League?

Also I notice you talk about in game intelligence - where do you feel that Bruma has more of this than Zaha... what specifically has disappointed you about Zaha this season and what has made you stand up and take notice of Bruma?

Most players coming from another London team would still end up as benchwarmers, but cost a LOT more.

Tielemans has been hammering in a fair number of long-range goals this season.
Which would be a nice alternative to the sometimes ponderous play where we shift it around to try and draw out defenders before attempting an incisive through-ball.

We are not going to be splashing the cash too much in the upcoming transfer windows I would think, and the buy potential approach has worked for us pretty well. I see no reason to abandon it. I would like us to try for that young fullback from Fulham, Sessegnon and maybe Classen from Ajax. One or two purchases of young players like that and bringing a few more lads like Edwards into the squad might be the extent of it.
If we get decent wedge for Sissoko and Njie then I love if we dropped it all on Celtic's Dembele. I feel he is going to be a massive star.

Edit : Classen is older than I thought.

I don't know how far along in his progression he is, but Edwards might be the answer to our creative midfielder need. He's 18 and will turn 19 season. That's the age when Dele got his break. I'd really like to see Poch give him the chance, although the fact he hasn't even made the bench for a PL game this season might mean he's still a season away from being ready.

Now is also a very good time to add more potential as we don't really need anyone to go straight into first team. We have time to let them develop.

I think we permanently recruit into the academy, and that's the place to focus. Although there's been a decision not to recruit from too far afield geographically (see the McDermott interview in America) because they weren't ever succeeding.

We don't need 18-20YOs if 2CV, KWP, Onomah and Edwards are already going to be more involved next season.

I think the Tielemans ship has sailed now unfortunately. Several reports seem to suggest he is on the brink of signing for Monaco.

As a related aside here, I was extremely impressed with Monaco (especially in our away game out there). I think they are by some distance the best team we have played against this season. They have an excellent young team and seem to be doing the right things in terms of the players they bring into their club. The fact that they want Tielemans is just another indication that he will be a real top talent.

Its going to be very difficult to buy players who would improve our side/squad without spending a lot of money and i can not see that happening. As for Zaha i am still not convinced that we would spend the amount that has been mentioned and it would be a big risk ( imo).

I've been impressed with Monaco this season too.

If we are interested in Tielemans we really need to work the thing in our favour (PL and Poch). I wouldn't rule him out choosing us over Monaco.
