Transfer speculation

Yeah I know you've been banging that drum since we played them in the Europa League - Tielemans is widely regarded as one of the brightest prospects in the game not already at a big club, and by all accounts has stepped it up again this year - just because he had an off day v us in the one game you saw him play doesn't really change that.

You're entitled to your opinion though

He's not a bad player. But we have Winks. I wanted Dendoncker 20 odd months ago, but now we have Dier and Wanyama.

Our specific need this year is for a wide AM with a bit of spark and penetration (plus the physicality for the high press).

I dont trust signings for outside the premier league. I dont think we need much for the first team unless we are going to sign a class class player which i cant see us doing.

Lloris
Vorm

Walker
Trippier

Rose
???? ( Davies isnt really good enough, we need someone similar to Rose like Trippier is to Walker) I like Olssen or Montero converting into a wing back. These players would happily sit on the bench

Toby
Vert
Dier

I dont think he rates Wimmer much so perhaps bring in another centre back, Dier has his moments but i think if played there longer he will improve

Wanyam - dier can always come in there
Demeble
Winks

(likes of Ali, Eriksen can also drop in centre mid if need be)

Eriksen
not really got a replacement for him/If Swansea go down perhaps we could go back for Sig at Swansea

Ali - be good to get Lamela back, Nkoudu still unsure about

Kane - Janssen im not sure about, is he good enough? id give him another season
Son who can play upfront or in ali or eriksens position

We have got quote a few versatile players which is always good to have.

I would move on Sissoko, Onomah Davies (if we replace him which we wont)

Shortlisted players would be:

Josh King
Sigurdssen
Montero
Defoe
Zaha
Mahrez
Andre Grey
Barkley
Chilwell
Iheanacho
Ward-Prowse

All these players would boost our squad. Mahrez, Zaha probably only likely starters and would cost us big money.

Rest would improve our squad, im not saying sign all of them but his is a reliable proven in the premierleague list.

Would like barkley and ihenacho sorry for spelling.

Promote some youngsters and sign a couple of Africans i never heard of and we are good to go.

He's a different player to Winks from what I can see - he has scored 19 goals this season, which by any standard is a great record for a midfield player and I believe he has started playing further forward - he'd be a great signing imo and we'd be lucky to get him as I'm sure much bigger clubs will be in for him, hopfully our Belgium connection can swing it in our favour.

With regards to the wide attacking player Zaha ticks all those boxes for me and has plenty of scope for further improvement.

Good to get this thread started.:)

My initial take:

Zaha - us playing mind games on Palace/Zaha
Luan Veira - sounds like clickbait
Bruma - one year left on his contract? 22 yo? Nailed on!
Naby Keita - clickbaot
Saed Kolasinac - hmmm, plausible. I think he can also play CB too...i guess it depends on if he is REALLY better than Wimmer outright and is better at stepping into the team after not having much of a run of games...so perhaps not actually when i think about it...

My thoughts....

Zaha. I think we definitely want. Pochettino has tried to get him in two previous transfer windows and the player seems to have improved since then. He fits a Pochettino type player… skilful, physically very good, can play in a number of positions and is still developing. I would be very happy if we sold Sissoko and brought in Zaha, he is a much better fit for our squad IMO, although it is a bit of a shame that he has opted to play for the Ivory Coast instead of England as that means losing him for a key period every couple of years.

Kolasinac. An extremely highly rated player who is able to play anywhere on the left side. Is more of a like for like player compared to Rose than Davies is. There will be serious competition for him across the whole of Europe. My worry here is that the player hasn’t been announced as signing for us yet despite being free to do so having less than six months left on his deal. My only hope here is that any news is being held back so as not to destabilise our existing squad at this stage of the season.

Bruma. There has been quite a lot of noise on him for the past 18 months or so. Although it has seemed that all of the noise has come from his side. It wouldn’t surprise me here if our name is being used by his agent to drive up negotiations elsewhere.

Zaha is awful. Another Sissoko in waiting. Townsend outshines him most weeks

We need to replace Sissoko with a proper talent. A Bernado Silva, Isco or Mahrez.

As we'll likely only be after one player this summer, lets invest the time and effort into getting the absolute right one.
What is awful about Zaha? In what way is he 'another Sissoko'? Have you watched Zaha play?

It would be amazing to get any of the three you mention. I think all are likely to be beyond our financial means however (especially in terms of wages).

I think Zaha will appeal to Pochettino as he is able to play on either side, could play through the middle as a 9 or a 10 and could also be deployed as a wing back.

I perdict we'll go after Mahrez again, and get him this time. Not a bad player to have around

I also think that's the most likely outcome.

If we can get him for say £5-10m more than China pays us for Sissoko, that will be a good summer's business.

Tielemans is more like Winks from what I remember - a deeper sitting CM ballplayer.

Defour (now at Burnley) was their ACM/playmaker.

Dendoncker (their DM) has always been the best of their famed CM trio IMO.
When you say "Dendoncker has always been the best of their famed CM trio".... I assume you are talking about how you viewed Anderlecht's performances against us in the Europa league last season?

Something that I think you fail to realise is that Tielemans was only 18 years old when we played Anderlecht. I agree he didn't shine in their games against us, but he didn't look out of place either, which is no mean feat at 18.

Also I think you have ignored Tielemans exploits other than in the two games against us. Since Defour moved on, Tielemans has been moved into that playmaker position and has continued to improve. This season he has scored 17 goals in 36 games, which is a fantastic feat for a now 19 year old midfielder. He is clearly a very talented player who is getting better and better.

Poch has already said that CCV, Edwards and Harrison will be part of the first team squad next season? That would reduce the number of positions that we are looking to fill.
While they will all be part of the first team squad, aren't they are under the age at which they have to be counted as taking up one of the 25 places?

Barkley and Zaha would be big upgrades on Sissoko and GKN. DIdn't rate Zaha at all until this season but his end product has improved, I believe Poch could definitely develop his game even more like we saw with Rose and Walker. Danny Rose went from a player that a large portion of the fanbase didn't really rate at all into the best LB in the league so imagine what he could do with Zaha!

Won't pretend I know anything about the other names mentioned.

Think we need another striker. Happy for Janssen to have one more season but only if we sign a third striker to take some of the burden off him.

Would love to see us sign an established, marquee player like Isco but can't see it happening.

I think Mahrez will cost £40 million, and demand wages of £120k to £150k a week. I think Arsenal will sign him to replace Sanchez.

Zaha would be great, think he's now more mature and went to Man U far too early in his career. The problem is I can't see him replacing Eriksen or Alli as a starter. So spending £30m+ on a sub...

Do you mean Sterling, rather than Harrison? I don't think Poch has said anything about the latter and although Sterling may be "part of the squad" I'd say it's highly unlikely he'll actually play at any point.

My thoughts are that bringing in Zaha would also enable us to give Janssen a second season as Zaha can also play quite effectively as a number 9 (I think he is better equipped than Son to play up top for us). So we would have another option to use instead of Kane.

You are probably right. I was searching for an article with the quotes but was struggling to find one.
