Transfer speculation

Am I right in thinking that since we last brought a player we have sold Bentaleb, Carroll, fazio & Walker. Must be the best part of £75-80 mill.

You can now add N'Jie to that list.

Looks like we've decided to focus on offloading first before we bring anyone in. Might back up the rumours that we will have no net spend again this summer.

And Luke McGee. Maybe not on the same scale, but every million counts.
So what do we think their fees add up to?

Walker (50M)
Bentaleb (17M)
Carroll (6M)
N'Jie (5M)
Fazio (2M)
McGee (1M)

That is a fair amount of money and will probably increase by another 30 to 40 million if Sissoko and Wimmer are sold.

So assume that Sissoko goes for say £20m (with add-ons taking it to £30m to save face), then that's around £100m. Assuming we keep Wimmer, then partly using people who we've been linked with, I'd be happy with something like:

Barkley - £25m - £30m
Cancelo - £15m - £20m
A new young CB - £20m-£25m (I believe that we need 6 senior players to cover the 3CB and 1 DM spots in total - JV, TA, ED, KW, VW and this newbie)
A pacey attacker who can cover CF - £30m-£35m (or alternatively a skilful player who can beat someone on a sixpence)

That's £90m - £110m so roughly zero net spend

We were £15.5m in the red last summer (most of Sissoko), so that will be covered first.

I reckon we are probably £65m in the black at the moment.

I wonder if old " rent a quote" will push Birmingham to the financial brink, much like he has done to a string of other clubs.
I don't think that it's Redknapps fault regarding finances of clubs. It's very much the chairmans responsibility to say no we haven't got the cash to sign player x. He could never spend beyond his means at Spurs because we actually have a decent chairman....

“We pretty much have all you need. But at the end it is still business,” said Klopp.

“You go out and see the car that you have been dreaming about your whole life. “You say ‘here is the money’ but they say to you ‘I don’t want to sell the car’. You say ‘but I have got the money’ but they say ‘I don’t want to sell’.

“They say ‘go for another car in another colour’ but you say ‘that’s ok but I want this’. Things like this happen in life, not only football. It is pretty simple. You can imagine how it works. It is not that we are doing something that other clubs are not doing - that we are more silly or they are more smart.

“If I could decide alone, we would be complete from the last day of last season - done, shoot, there’s the new team, thank you very much - but that is dreamland.

“I can imagine if you are not involved it is annoying for fans. They think ‘oh my GHod! Nothing happens here! Everything happens there!’ We cannot think like this. I would have liked to have everyone here for the first day of training at the latest. But that is not possible anymore and probably won’t be possible again in the world, especially in England. So why should I moan about it?”

The figures in this transfer window are astronomical, something Klopp says sets the Premier League apart.

“It is always complicated,” he said.

“I read in Germany that there are still transfers in the Bundesliga for £5million. You can imagine that happening in England? No chance. Yet it is similar quality.

“You are in a circle and that is how it works here. It’s not that we don’t want to spend. It is all about doing the right things.”

Asked if he had the financial support from Liverpool’s owners, Klopp replied: “One hundred per cent. Ok, I didn’t ask if I could buy Ronaldo or the other guys from Barcelona but I am absolutely fine with this. If they could make it quicker, you can imagine they would be here and trying. It’s not about money or something like this.

“It is not about a number (of players). It is about how it fits together. We will see.

“I felt we all ready had a pretty good side last year, especially when everyone is fit and that gives me a good feeling.”

Klopp has given no indication so far he is losing patience in the pursuit of Keita – Liverpool are constantly in contact with the Bundesliga club - but there may come a point where the Liverpool manager has to rethink if there is no prospect of a breakthrough in negotiations.

“It’s all possible. It’s more likely doing that than doing nothing,” said Klopp.

Of course its up to the chairman to hold the purse strings, however " rent a quote " has left a lot of clubs on the brink and he has the gift of the gab and shows no concerns about the mess he leaves behind. But you are right that Levy was sensible enough to ignores his pleads about needing another " nice boy, good family man, like kittens, never a moments problem" player/s.
