Transfer Rumour Thread

If Lincoln was alive he might have said
"you can please all the fans some of the time, and some of the fans all the time, but you cannot please all the fans all the time"

Not really. The way I read your post is that your general sentiment is that that this is an opportunity missed, which implies that the club isn't doing enough, and that's what I was responding to. If that's not what you meant, my apologies.
You are drawing an inference from the post that is not there. I know the club are searching for a striker, we all do, but for whatever reason we haven't got a deal across the line. I have no idea what has gone on over the last month or even since the last transfer window in terms the effort in making a transfer happen or not. Hence I never apportioned any blame.
I am like many others disappointed we have not got cover in for Kane and I certainly believe it is an opportunity missed. Is that not a fair sentiment to have?

And if " Chicken Licken" was about he would say

" The sky is falling in and we are doomed". :)

Disappointing not to get a shiny new toy,but I'm that disappointed to be honest. I think our squad is really strong and we have a few players who can new get double figure goals for the season which is rare for us. I think if Kane was to miss only a few games then we'd be fine.

Two central defenders who the coach appeared to have no intention of using. If Poch has decided that we are better off playing Dier in central defence than Fazio or Veljkovic, I think that we have to trust his judgement on that. I do not see how it can be described as an idiotic decision though consider one looked a liability on his only first team appearance this season and the other has been miles away from the first team.

I do not want to move Dier but I could understand why Poch may think that it is a better option than bringing in a new defender or playing ones that he does not have faith in,

You are right, we will get more injuries. What we do not know if that if we had brought in players who Poch thought would not fit in with his way of playing or without the qualities that he wants in the squad, whether that would have given us a better chance with coping with those injuries.

People have been saying Kane looks knackered after every flat performance this season. Funnily enough, more often than not he has played excellently the following game. People often see what they are looking for or what supports their views.

We'll have to agree to disagree, you're clearly happy to trust Poch/Levy's judgement whereas I wanted us to strengthen the squad.

I fcuking hope you're proven right because we are on the brink of doing something amazing this season and our actions during this transfer window have done nothing to capitalise on that, in fact in my opinion, they have put it in jeopardy.

It is a perfectly acceptable and justified sentiment to have. I too am disappointed that we are not getting cover for Kane. But the moment you throw in the phrase "opportunity missed", it gives what you say a different meaning. It suggests that an opportunity was there and we didn't try to take advantage of it and from what I can tell, we tried our hardest to do so, but it didn't work out. That's the way it reads to me, anyway, but then again, English is my second language, so I may be interpreting things a bit unconventionally. :)

We'll leave it there I think.

I agree that we are on the brink of something amazing, what I do not understand is why people think that we should abandon the plan that has got us there when we are so close? If Poch thinks that he needs signings with certain character traits to improve the squad, then you have to assume that those players were not available and that he thinks bringing in players without those traits would be detrimental. What you are arguing for then is not a no risk strategy, in fact, you have to assume that our manager thinks that it is higher risk than what he has chosen to do.

What if players who had the right 'character traits' were available but we couldn't finalise the deal?
If those players are the difference between us finishing 4th/5th and actually challenging for the title by late April then again is that 'just bad luck'? Again?

It's just the way the cookie crumbles. You win some, you lose some. And for every "bad luck" case, we've had "good luck" ones. We just tend to remember the bad ones more.

When the bottom team in the PL will get £90,000,000 !!! next season, Pearce is probably right to hold onto Berahino. I am a little surprised that we haven't pre-empted the big spend that will inevitably happen next summer.

Pleat just said that Poch was the stumbling block in the Dembele transfer. Said the fee was agreed, but Poch wouldn't agree to the loan back

You've spoken a lot of sense tonight Milo.

We don't need signings. We have Poch as a manager. And I really really believe that makes a difference!

Look at what he has got our players doing this season. This squad is so much more than previous squads as a working unit.

Interestingly Leicester have done the same thing as us, dipped their toes a little and not found the right players so trust in the unit they've got. And they're the team most like us for unity this season imo.

When the cookie crumbles in the same direction and in the same way everytime (i.e. not strengthening in the most obvious way in January and eventually paying for inertia) it become more than just 'bad luck'..

Didn't Leicester sign a couple of players? We tried, but did not succeed in signing a CF. Better none than the wrong one for the sake of it.

Then you have to question the whole strategy then; that clearly says that Poch wanted a striker for the NOW and not just for later...so then the questions are: who was the alternative and why haven't they been brought in instead (plus it's not like we just knew a few days ago what was wanted)..

I think that it is different now because this squad is so close to being complete. Finding the right players to complete the squad is arguably harder than when you have a number of weaknesses that need addressing or just tinkle poor players, where any signing would be a step up.

People moan about this happening every time but look at our squad. If we were so bad in the transfer market, would we have the team that we have now?

if doing something amazing can be derailed by not signing one player then we were not on particularly sure footing to start with

we have a lot of talent right now, the plan is working (and it would never have included a deadline day splurge), lets stick with it

Lol; let's revisit this later in April. In one thing to say "we don't need a lot of sigings"; it's totally another to say "we don't need any signings"

Poch has done well, but he can only perform miracles to a certain degree. He has coach well and earned the right to have an extra striker to rotate with one who by next summer will have hardly had a break for nearly two years (and at that time a new striker would have been handly to give the team options going into the new season fully up to speed with Poch's methods, training etc)
