*** Tottenham Hotspur vs West Ham United OMT ***

That was a great team, but we had superstars covering for our weaknesses. It was certainly the most exciting team for sure, but you get the feeling that this team has players that are more interchangeable, rather than having cogs like Modric and Bale. The "system" was sorely lacking, no trace of anything remotely resembling a plan B (which almost all of us were requesting), and more prone to collapse. It was a sheer run-them-down and counter attacking team, which was natural given the speed resources we had back then. And any team without a world class keeper is not complete! :)

Hmmm....if you put it like that, it may well be right (although I will point out that, depth wise, we're still shorter than we'd like, and not much has changed from 2011/2012: we're screwed if we lose Toby or Kane, for example). But on form, that team utterly dominated games and ripped teams apart in a manner that this team still hasn't learned to mimic.

Yeah it was very un-Kane-like.

He never seems to like side-footing the ball, and always hits his laces through the ball. A left side foot, if a little more composed, would surely have been a goal.

Isn't there a stat somewhere saying Eriksen covers the most ground out of all our players on average? I think if I'm reading the post correctly, you are suggesting that Eriksen isn't hard working. In response I'd have to question whether you have ever seen Spurs play before.

No, I think Eriksen is very hard-working, just not athletic. It's not the be all and end all, just an observation of a potential XI we could see emerge. Anyhow, Eriksen was superb today, our best player in the first half. With Ali getting injured, I would expect we'll get to see Son, Lamela and Eriksen in a 3 behind Kane. Bring on Chelsea.

Although he was a little off the pace, it was good to have Son back. He has quick feet and was involved in 2 or 3 of the goals? Takes some of the pressure of Eriksen and should create more space for the likes of Dembele and Eriksen.

Yeah, I'm a little bit worried that we have no appearant substitute for Kane. Toby (or Verthongen for that matter) is a part of a duo, so we would certainly miss it if we lost one of them. But I remember how we fell apart when Modric broke his leg, not to mention how toothless we became when we lost Bale. Even with Bale we struggled to break teams down if they didn't open up to counter attacks, banging against the wall and how dependant we were on that little special to win games. For me at least, we apparently had very little structure and seemingly no system, give the ball to Modric/Bale and they will take care of it. Our greatest threat were our midfield. This team I feel builds the attacks up a different way with more people involved, we are not as static (I remember with dread the lack of movement up front from Adebayor, Keane et al), we have several great passers and everybody is involved in a way we haven't had for long. We are even a threat on set pieces!

But I don't disagree very much, according to many we were the most exciting team to watch in the entire PL at the time! I only think that we might be a tiny little bit more "complete" now, and we will only get better.

Edit: To put it another way, we may have had better players back then, but we have a better team now. IMHO.

Mason will play number 10 against Chel53a unless Lamela plays but I'm not confident of Eriksen doing the leg work Alli does if Lamela, Son and Eriksen play.

I swear this gets brought up all the time but Eriksen covered more ground than any other midfielder at Spurs last season.

I think Son will help shoulder the work rate in that part of the field
as well..as Erikson does so much work...both players are nippy quick and complement each other nicely!
