*** Tottenham Hotspur vs Qarabağ FK OMT ***

That was three games in London. This involves 10 hours of flying between games. None of the players needed for Sunday should in Asia tonight.

It all just begins to sound like "wah, wah, wah, why isn't he doing what I said..." after a while though. No one seriously thought that he would leave the whole of the first team squad at home, he has probably gone as far as he can.

If he can drop everyone for a home league cup game against Arsenal he obviously has enough control to rest everyone in Europe.
However a Europa League looks much better a managerial CV than a League Cup

Id imagine, like with the LC game, Pochettino will field a team he thinks allows him to rotate and be in with a good chance of getting a result - not sure id support a manager fielding a team with little chance of doing so, which imv would be a totally rotated XI or 'none of our first XI travelling'

Don't know why we've taken first teasers just Tobit on the bench. If though they won't get knackered from playing, they'll still have the travel fatigue

Tottenham forward Harry Kane may not start Thursday's tie

Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino says Harry Kane is not certain to start Thursday's Europa League's clash against Qarabag in Azerbaijan.

Spurs know victory would them through to the last-32 with a match to spare but Pochettino is mindful of the fact that England forward Kane has played almost every minute of every game for club and country of late.

Asked if Kane might begin the match on the bench, Pochettino said: "We will see tomorrow if Kane plays.

"This is a problem we have had in the last few weeks, the international players play a lot; Kane, (Dele) Alli, (Kyle) Walker, (Eric) Dier.

"The competition is very tough and it's not easy to manage that.

"But always we try to assess and analyse to make the correct decision."

Spurs have a big Premier League game at home to Chelsea on Sunday and, with an eye on that game, Pochettino has left Walker, Danny Rose and Mousa Dembele at home and admitted that the scheduling has not been ideal.

However, the manager insists that he is travelling with a squad who can secure three points in Baku.

"For us, it is a very important game, one that we need to win," he added.

"Some players who can play have again stayed in London, but all the important players available, who we believe can win the game tomorrow, are here.

"But it is not our right to win."

I don't have free view and have Sky with BT Sports and essentially cannot watch this because showcase isn't on Sky. Fuming.

Actually I am livid as I have had zero mental preparation for not watching this in HD on my TV without having to fumble about for a stream. Arghh.

Anyone seen the training pictures from Baku put on Facebook? Is it Cameron Carter-Vickers in the pictures?

The Caucasus has always been part of Europe. It's on the traditional border between Christendom and Ottoman (Georgia and Armenia are predominantly Christian, Azerbaijan is Sunni), but it's ex-Soviet rather than Turkic. Turkmenistan is quite a way away in central Asia.

Turkey and Israel are the two that have no geographic reason to be in UEFA

Eh? Over 80% of the population of Azerbaijan are Shi'a Muslims.

Strong team required. We need to keep this run going as a priority.

I like the cut of your jib. I trust the manager. He knows what he's doing and who can travel where and be fit for what. Jet-lag isn't an issue, agreed, and as long as they can stretch out on the flight/have business class style leg space (which I would expect on a charter of this nature) they will be fine. Instead of one or the other, let's win both! COYS!

Lol Gutter.

Leave at home - Lloris - Walker - Toby - Verts - Rose - Dier - Eriksen - Kane

Starting 11 - Vorm - Trippier - Fazio - Wimmer - Davies - Alli - Winks - Mason - Onomah - Lamela - Townsend

Subs - Mcgee - CVV - Son - and whoever from the kids

This game being sacrificed doesn't mean Europa is not important, it means Chel53a is more important.

It would be mental to expect the players to do a 6 hour flight Thuersday night and trainFriday - they would need to rest Friday amd then only Saturday prep for an early kick off Sunday. Or return Friday after training over there and and rest after 6 hours and then Saturday prep and an early kick off.

Both options are fekeries.

Poch has a tough tough decision to make as this isn't about fitness, it is about mental travel times in a short period leading up to a game that could help us push on with a relatively easy run coming afterwards.

They can do precisely that! It is wholly doable and fine, especially with young men.

Agreed Milo.

Further thoughts (generally)...

I will step into this...I work with people who have insane travel schedules and sometimes fly from one country to another to another in a 24 hour period, have a day off, perform and fly again. I have done it with them many times. IF your preparations are consistent, IF your patterns remain the same when you travel, IF the hotels are either the same management or at least have the same layouts/bedding/food, there is NO reason you cannot do this every so often. Especially in your early 20s. Sorry, that is the truth. They are on a charter with good leg-room/set recline which will allow them to stretch out, they are doubtless going through an FBO (most likely Luton's FBO) and given Poch's eye for detail, I expect he has demanded (and received, top class advance work from the logistics team at the club whose job it is to make these trips smooth.

And let's not forget custom antimaccasars. :)

In all seriousness though, I too am puzzled that so many first team players are making the trip, given the important game with Chelsea and also the fact that this is not a must-win (a draw would suit us just fine). But so far Poch seems to be making all the right decisions, not to mention he knows what the lads can bear much better than any of us. So I'll reserve judgment until after the game on Sunday. As apprehensive as I may be, he'll probably get it right again this time too.

Really don't understand why we have dragged players like Kane all the way to Baku just to sit on the bench

Morale? Momentum? Better than dossing around in the cold with Ugo and the kids?

And because it's a crucial European tie.
