Redknapp hoping to secure perfect run in

By James Pearson - Follow me: @SkySportsJamesP. Last Updated: April 25, 2012 9:04pm

A slump in form has seen the North Londoners slip out of the top four, although Redknapp insists there are still four clubs vying for a place in next season's elite club competition.

Tottenham do battle with Blackburn, Bolton, Aston Villa and Fulham between now and the summer and Redknapp remains of the firm belief that they can turnaround their form.

"We can still do it. We've got to win four games. We've got to go on a good run now."

The club have only won one of their last six in league action, losing their last two but Redknapp says nothing has changed at White Hart Lane from what they have been doing all season.

The former Portsmouth manager thinks fatigue might be a factor with his squad, while injuries to the likes of Younes Kaboul and Michael Dawson have not helped.

Nothing's changed

"Nothing's changed. We're playing the same way. We train, everything's been the same," he told Sky Sports News. "There's been no change at the club.

"I've felt we've played well, apart from the Norwich game at home. Chelsea in the cup semi-final didn't go our way, but in the league, apart from the Norwich defeat, I think we've played very well.

"We've just got to pick ourselves up. Nothing's change. I think maybe one or two are looking a little bit tired and we've run short in terms of having a strong squad. I'm not in a position where I can change my squad and make eight changes.

"We've lost some key players at the wrong time, Kaboul, Dawson and now Assou-Ekotto. Three defenders look like they're out for the rest of the season so it's been difficult.

"No excuses. We've got four games to go. We can still do it. We've got to win four games. We've got to go on a good run now."

Focus

Redknapp is not dwelling on the club's recent poor form, stating his only focus is on Tottenham claiming a top-four finish this season.

Chelsea booked their place in the UEFA Champions League final with a remarkable 3-2 aggregate success over holders Barcelona but Redknapp is not worrying about the Blues lifting the trophy.

"We've got to go for that qualification and see where it takes us. It's still wide open, Arsenal, Chelsea, ourselves and Saudi Sportswashing Machine. It's still any two from four."

Should the Stamford Bridge club be crowned champions of Europe at the Allianz Arena in May then there would only be three remaining places for Premier League teams.

"We've got to make sure we finish fourth first of all, or third," he continued. "We've got to make sure we're in a position where we qualify, if we don't it doesn't matter what happens.

"What can you do? You've got to take it as it comes. We've got to make sure we get that position and see if they win the cup then that would be it.

"But if they don't you've got to make sure you're in there. You don't want to not qualify and then they don't win the cup and then you think 'well if only we'd made it'".

"We've got to go for that qualification and see where it takes us. It's still wide open, Arsenal, Chelsea, ourselves and Saudi Sportswashing Machine. It's still any two from four."

No departures

There have been suggestions the likes of Luka Modric and Gareth Bale could leave Spurs this summer should the club miss out on next season's Champions League.

However, Redknapp insists chairman Daniel Levy has no intention of cashing in on the club's assets, while being confident the players will not look to leave White Hart Lane should they finish lower than fourth.

"When they came to the club Tottenham weren't in the Champions League and nowhere near getting in," he continued.

"At the end of the day it's down to players. When things are going well we give them all the credit. If we didn't have a bad run we would have qualified for the Champions League.

"They play for Tottenham. They are at a great club. There's no reason why they should suddenly want to leave. Next year we'll hopefully have made the Champions League.

"If we don't then next season we'll try again. That's all you can do. You don't lose your best players all of a sudden. There's not too many better clubs they could go to other than Tottenham. I don't see too many of them wanting to leave.

"You're talking about a couple of exceptional players here in Gareth Bale and Luka Modric. They've both signed long-term contracts.

"Gareth has had a fantastic time for a young player at Tottenham. He needs to stay at Tottenham for a few more years yet. I think he'll keep developing and hopefully go on and play in a Tottenham team that can go on and win the Champions League eventually.

"We've progressed so much in the last four years. We've got to keep that going into the next few years and push on even more in the table and look to win a Premier League.

"The chairman (Levy) runs the football club in terms of finance and everything else. He's not looking to sell the best players. We're not looking to sell. It's a club that we're looking to build. There's no panic."

Smells of the PR phalanx at Spurs writing Harry's script there.

Sadly I fear no CL, no Modric, and no Bale for next season - after a summer of turmoil, rumours, change of management and last minute bargain loan transfers of players.

If BAE is out then maybe we can try Bale at left back which I feel should have been done a while back. Modric on the left with Parker and Sandro in the middle, Lennon on the right. Bale galloping in to space with the whole flank to himself as opposed to trying to worm his way through a congested middle.

Would be harsh on Rose to not give him game time but sentiment doesn't really matter with the state we are in.

think this is an excellent opportunity for Rose to put his name in the hat for more pt next year if he has a good spell these last few games. this might be exactly what the doctor ordered for us to have more of a cutting edge down the left side.

Benny sends in some of the weakest crosses i've ever seen, and 90% of the time doesn't even look up to see where he's going to cross it. Rose is more content getting to the end line and then sending something in. Should be just what we need.

Dealing with set pieces is goint to be essential on Sunday. We struggled against all their long, high balls into the box in the first game. I fear Kaboul and Dawson will be missed for this game. I'd consider dropping Gallas or King in favour of Nelsen.

Wonder if he thought the same way last year!? Hopefully he can give us something different like you say and really get in behind the full-back.

The ambition that most of us wanted to see, delivered far, far after it was needed. Still, good on him. Or the PR team, whoever.

No chance imo we'll get 6 points from out 2 away matches. I'll take Europa league football with a new young manager whos gonna take it seriously. fudge spending ?ú30mil on players as well and fudging up our wage structure. Wait till the new stadiums build then we can truly compete.

Aston Villa are the worst team in the league. They're about midtable Championship level and that's being kind. Considering Bent is missing and they have other injuries, I'm not sure how they're picking up draws. They have the second lowest wins in the league (second to Wolves, a team that hasn't won under their current manager) and their strategy against the good teams is to try to park the bus without actually being any good at parking the bus.

The match at WHL was the most comfortable match of the season for us, the away game is on paper the easiest away game of the season.

I know our form is brick, but theirs is brick too.

The other away game is at Bolton, which is significantly harder, but it's Bolton... How many easier away matches are there? I'm not saying it'll be an easy game, just that there are at least 15 harder away games this season.

This is winnable, it's not like we have to go to somewhere scary.

I know you could say that QPR isn't the most scary place to go, but they have a small pitch, they are organized and they have picked up results against decent sides.

I know we went to Stevenage in the F.A Cup and didn't win, so the points aren't in the bag, but fudge me, I refuse to be scared of Villa and Bolton. Anything less than 3 points at Villa is an embarrassment of the highest order (especially considering their injury problems) and if Bolton does prove to be a problem, we don't deserve CL football next year. This is a huge chance, it's also a very good chance.

Our next game is Blackburn at home... So our biggest challenge in the last 4 matches might be Fulham at home, if it all comes down to playing Fulham at home for 4th place, I'd expect us to want to win that, our sheer determination should make us perform.

We can do this... If Arsenal, Saudi Sportswashing Machine, Chelsea or even Everton or Liverpool were in this position, I'd fully expect them to be able to finish 4th, are we so much worse than those clubs?

i had us down for 10 points from these 4 games before the norwich and qpr debacles. now i'd be surprised if we get more than 5 or 6.

villa away at the moment under normal circumstances would be an absolute gift but now it's like 2 bald men fighting over a comb and we haven't shown much stomach for a fight. would have to be the absolute lowest of the low if we make mccleish look a decent manager.

3 wins will still almost certainly get us 4th but impossible to see it happening never mind how soft the games left are.

Strangely, I'm more confident about Villa away than Blackburn at home, which is in turn something I'm more confident about than Bolton away or Fulham at home.

The one good thing about the QPR game is that it's not a complete confidence killer... As low on confidence as we are, Harry will tell them how "well" we defended and if anyone still believes the things he says, they might not be totally shaken. If we have Ade and Kaboul back, it'd be so huge. (If they were fit.)
