bricky afternoon all round. We looked off the pace from the first whistle. Too many important players had off days....you can't legislate for that; it was the team we pretty much all would have picked (bar Doherty/Aurier) and was a team and shape that has produced our best performances of the season to date in the last few weeks. Hate to say it but Woolwich had a good day - their influential players showed up.

There are a few bizarre statistics in this fixture....the last we won (2010) saw us trail 2-0 at Half-Time. However, in the last 10 at 'home' of which we have been dominant (7 wins, 2 draws) Arsenal have scored first in five and only won once.
In the last 20 PL NLD's - 13 Home Wins, 6 draws and 1 away win. I'd be amazed if there were any other PL fixtures over a 20-game period in which only 5% has been won by the away team.

But Aurier would have struggled being so isolated too. I’ve made it clear my thoughts on serge this season, but yesterday was too me a classic the player is better when their nil playing. Serge is been class but he can’t deal with two men, two capable attacking players on his own.
It was a horrendous effort form bale which meant Hojbjerg was constant moving over there to cover leaving a gap in the middle

Of course we will NEVER know so its pure guess work and conjecture. I believe within the ongoing communication between onfield referee and VAR referee there comes a point where the onfield referee is convinced he's had the perfect angle to see what he needs to see (and it appears that Oliver was very well positioned).
To be honest in the pantheon of bad decisions I've seen go against us this one doesn't register - Sanchez gets none of the ball and all of Lacazette - its a fortunate one to be given for you in the circumstances but not an unfortunate one to be given against you.

When you see sideshow Bob run past Harry Kane go support his team in attack and Kane just stare into space you know the players ain’t switched on
when you see Kane flattening their CB as he clears the ball being his highlight after 80 minutes you know it’s been a poor show.
and I’m not singling out Kane who is brilliant but it shows to me the issues with work rate and hunger yesterday. Seemed to be a few frustrated players out there

it really wasn’t any different to any other game this season, no crowds baying for blood!
We played like yesterday against Fulham. Arsenal were competent, nothing more but we were dreadful, it has to be emphasised!

We seemed to brickhouse a couple of draws there and were unfortunate to lose on a couple of occasions but overall this fixture has been a graveyard for us. Since Wenger at Highbury:
96/7 - lost 1-3 Two late goals by Adams and Bergkamp
97/9 - drew 0-0 despite being down to 10 men (Edinburgh s/o) before half time
98/9 - drew 0-0 - the most George Graham 0-0 ever
99/00 - lost 1-2 played ok and had chances at 1-1.
00/01 - lost 0-2 day after Hoddle took over and we rested quite a few with the SF (also against Woolwich) the week after
01/02 - lost 1-2 they won it with a late penalty after we had equalised through a penalty
02/03 - lost 0-3 that Henry goal; we were down to 10 men (Simon Davies) before half-time
03/04 - lost 1-2 led through early Anderton goal - had chances to get a second before 2 second half goals (second of which was offside!)
04/05 - lost 0-1 Monday Night game at end of season - they were miles better than us.
05/06 - drew 1-1 last NLD at Highbury. OUr best chance to win having gone 1-0 up through Keane. (Jol squared up to Wenger).
Of the teams we have played AWAY in every PL season (29 years) our record is as follows:
Arsenal 2 wins 17 points (0.59 pts average)
Chelsea 1 win 13 points (0.52)
Liverpool 2 wins 14 points (0.48)
Man U 4 wins 15 points (0.45)
The only other ever present is Everton whom we are still due to play this season - of our 28 fixtures at Goodison we have won 10 gaining 45 points

He certainly wouldn’t have got beaten like his boots were rooted in quicksand for the first.... I know you quite like Doherty and want to give him a chance but you’ve nailed your colours to the wrong mast mate. We need to quickly get rid of him this summer before the rest of the league have another year to see how poor he is.

Come on mate this is such a weak position to take against criticism of him.for yesterday - no one came out of that game with any credit and i haven't seen any posts alleviating the players of their share of the blame.
But ultimately he has little credit in the bank when you look at our record this season v the top teams, not even the top teams just plain old top half teams - there's a theme running through those results and performances and yesterday is being viewed in relation to those as well rather than just a one off bad day at the office.

Yesterday was as limp a derby as I’ve seen from us in 40 years of watching
Tactics sit with the manager and if his tactics were to be low block defensive yesterday with that line up then that’s on him
Work rate and effort swings 80/20 for me to the players. They have to work as hard as the opposition. If we did that yesterday we win that game. But we didn’t. We were lazy form the word go.
I posted the defensive stats last night and the numbers for so many players were shockingly bad. It showed a lack of desire and effort
But it’s not knew when we play them there either
I saw the defensive stats you posted and they can be used to argue either side of the debate - I'd expect a team told to be passive and to sit off the opposition to have low defensive numbers whilst they also support the idea that they never put a shift in.
