Tottenham Hotspur V Aston Villa

Kulu in midfield then.

Decent side considering the amount of absentees. But would think we need to score 3 goals to win.

We all know Rashford will come on and bag a debut goal, so there's one for sure. Have a feeling Rogers will score too

Richarlison and Dragusin are bad luck. Solanke suffered a twisted knee in training. I don't know enough about how it happened to say what the cause was. It might have been due to bad luck but with the info I have I cannot completely rule out it was not due to fatigue on the muscles and joints due to lack of rest. So for me, not enough info to support either case.

It seems to me that there are 2 positions, either the injuries are largely down to Ange or they are mostly bad luck depending on which side of the fence you sit on. The truth probably lies in the middle.

We know from narratives of his time at other clubs that injuries are expected in his first season and gradually improve by his second season. Except in this case, the second season was the one where the injury crisis really took hold probably because of the number of games played combined with the intensity in the way we play ( judged by the number of sprints graphic in the "Injuries" thread.)

At the start of the season, Ange will have known Spurs would play a lot of games with Europe as well as the domestic cups. So his strategy around squad management needed to take this into account and perhaps adjusted his system so the historical injuries that he has overseen in his squads were mitigated in a tougher league. This is where I think he has demonstrated his inexperience in the PL.

He may have been let down to a certain extent by the medical team, but he is the manager and he is judged on results as has always been the case. And in the league they have not been good enough. Even at the start of this season with a full complement of players available our results could be best described as inconsistent.
I recall a few players having knee complaints when we had to play on artificial pitch in Bern back in Redknapp era, so have to wonder whether extra time at Tamworth contributed to Solanke's injury.

Postecoglou wanted to bring a couple of coaches with him from Celtic and perhaps the lessons they learned which helped reduce injuries in his 2nd season there might've proved invaluable; rather than a new set of coaches trying to learn on the job.

No wonder Pochettino took Perez everywhere with him and why Slot made Ruben Peeters the first addition to his coaching team.

I went through the Liverpool thread again earlier today and I would recommend reading it again because the comments really are a good guide
in analysis of the game...as there are more of us taking note! and many pointers to how bad we played how we were set up and how we should have played and improved etc. It will be an interesting read again after todays game! lets hope we dont bugger this one up as well ..
Its going to be a tough ride......
