Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - Licence To Stand

Another avenue that has been explored and reached a dead end. TFL did a study and concluded that having two stations serving North Tottenham i.e Northumberland Park and WHL was adequate and that the cost of an extension. A branch line up to Northumberland Park was suggested but then that would have a negative effect on the Victoria Line at Tottenham Hale , Blackhorse Rd and Walthamstow Central station as any such branch could only be served by northbound trains so that would reduce any service at the above stations. Victoria Line has one of the best frequencies in the world , why ruin it for a football stadium, nothing wrong with a good walk to Seven Sisters or TH , keeps people fit.
Crossrail 2 will serve NP when built but it is light years away, that will be TFL's next massive outlay.

The Victoria line, spanning from Brixton to Walthamstow Central, boasts an exceptional train frequency of 36 departures per hour. Its exceptional service ranks among the highest globally, second only to Moscows Metro, which dispatch trains at remarkably frequent 95-second intervals

I mean, it's no longer just a football stadium - it's probably one of the top events venues in London, full stop. Football fans won't mind walking down to Seven Sisters/Tot Hale, but the hordes of Beyonce or K-Pop fans might prefer a more convenient route to venue and back, no?

Yes TfL ruled it out earlier, but we could perhaps ask them to reconsider now it's clear the stadium is an events venue that might need more connectivity. Perhaps club offers to part-pay for an extension? Would then allow them to do their 'Tottenham Walk' plan from a while ago of having a Wembley-esque boulevard from the station straight to the ground. (Though, it would be absolutely terrible for local businesses).

Just speculating here btw, I have no real inside info. :)

Yeh this is my thinking, you would hope we keep fighting for it

It hasn't stopped virtually every concert from being a sell out , so why worry about it, it's not going to fill that stadium if there is a tube station outside.
Glastonbury is miles from any public transport but fans are willing to spend hours getting there.
Back in the early 60's when 50/60,000 crowds were regular at WHL the nearest tube station was Manor House, forget the tube connection, not happening.

Glastonbury people stay there
I was at gorillaz the other week and the tube like queue at seven sisters was 40 minutes
That is poor

When a large stadium dumps out ...there are queues? Wembley can be horrific.

We have NPK WHL THALE and SS.
This actually disperses the crowd out in different directions, moreso than many other stadiums.
The only downside is the overground options can't run as frequently as the tube.

Just have to deal with it...the Stadium does it's best to entice people to stay behind for a bit.

Logically I’d agree with you
But Seven Sisters is 30 mins walk and this was an hired after the gig finished
It’s why people will pick and choose more eventually
The ground is still shiny and new for most non football fans

I’m not a concert-goer but I imagine if I were I’d be booking my tickets based on wanting to see this particular band/performer, and would worry about transport afterwards (at least anywhere in and around London).
Organisers however might look at transport options before picking a venue.

Promoters IMO don’t care

What say you @Juicebox ?

But concert goers do

My sister in law went to Beyoncé and will never go back to the stadium because of her experience

Absolutely. And promoters take concert-goers' opinions into account. Football demand is inelastic, both home and away fans will generally show up because their team plays there. But events venues compete on a number of factors, with accessibility being a pretty big one, since a Beyonce fan won't have the attachment to Tottenham that makes them put up with tromping up and down to Seven Sisters and waiting ages for a packed train.

Right now the glitz of the stadium sort of covers up the travelling experience to get there and back, but that won't last. So the club need to be planning for a number of things imo - not only how to make transit to and from the stadium easier and safer, but also how to preserve its status as a prime events venue in a world where boiling heatwaves, freezing cold snaps, and other severe weather events become regular occurrences, as is now inevitable over the next decade or two.

I asked about expansion earlier and was told it's physically impossible - whole roof is supported by that pre-tensioned ring, and that would apparently need to be completely dismantled to add any more seats. The economics wouldn't work out given the roof alone cost over a hundred million to assemble.

Tbh it always struck me as poor future-proofing - since we've built ours, United have started planning for a 100k stadium, and the Emirates will likely be expanded to 75k. Eventually it will be a problem in terms of keeping up on matchday revenue. But I appreciate it's not an issue we'll need to consider for at least another decade and a bit.
60k is the optimum. Its what the collesium was. Its the classic design/setup. Anything bigger means inferior experience

Remember all the clubs in Italy who went to 80k have or are now planning to go back to 60k (Juve, Milan, Inter, Roma, Lazio)

Whenever I go to an event... football/gig/theatre etc it usually means I really want to go ...so the travel is what it is, just try and make the best of it

Lots of factors would be considered, capacity, date availability, etc will all be taken into account. Venues are permitted to operate to their licence for events based on crowd management, and at Tottenham there will be the road closures in place around the events, just as there are for football matches.

I went to my first concert at THS recently for Gorillaz, and found it no different to going to a match at the stadium (if anything slightly quicker getting in). However, I did get a taxi in and out, but speaking to friends that used the trains said it was no different to a match day. Same friends also went to the Biffy Clyro gig in Finsbury Park with us at the weekend and they said that public transport after that was much worse than from Tottenham, we got a cab home from there too.

Could we possibly dig down, instead of go up? That happened at the San Siro once upon a time i seem to remember

I’ve done the Death Star and the lane for gigs
Both are painful to get out of but they can only host 3 concerts
The experience inside at out ground is second to none though
Gorillaz was immense wasn’t it ?

Was an excellent gig, works really well as a stadium venue for concerts, feels 'intimate' for a stadium due to the steepness of the stands, and proximity to the pitch/stage.

We'd pre-booked the taxi home, and within 15 mins of Gorillaz finishing the set, we'd met the cab near the junction of WHL and Pretoria Road, and no traffic.

We had no trains from Bedford because of the crash and planned rail works
From the stadium to Finsbury Park took around 1 hr 20
That’s a long time imo for a short distance
