Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - Licence To Stand

Yes. Can see now that they need the space in between to monitor the roll out.

The pitch has to split up because of the supporting pillars underneath the stand. This shows the wheels that will move it inwards when it's been rolled all the way out.

Wembley has managed to solve the pitch problems and can now host NFL games, rugby, concerts, football games without any problem at all......could we not have done the same

We should have done, but maybe Levy anticipated the incessant moaning of some fans when the pitch looks a bit shabby after his money making NFL, concert, boxing etc events and he gets it in the ear about being all about money and not prioritising the team blah blah.

Plus we can keep the tray pitch in perfect condition indoors or out. Think of the hydroponics experts in N17.

Will the pitch go on top of those trays which are shown in the photo, or will they be within those trays? (ie will the height of the full thing be higher?)

Reason for asking is that there doesnt seem much depth there for the pitch turf, which presumably needs to be at least half a foot, nearer a foot deep, so that it doesnt cut up and go through to whatever is underneath the turf?

Or am I missing something?

They put in these black things for drainage and fill them with sand. The turf will be rolled out on top.

The trays are deep. Approx. 3 feet, and filled with sand and soil. Plenty for the roots of the grass to get a firm grip.

Wembley isn't nearly good enough for the NFL matches. Tears up far too easily .

It's about sight lines as much as playing surface. For a sport where the ball is in the hand, rather than on the ground, you either have the pitch lower or the stands further back.

It also means that we can host concerts, boxing or other events without damaging the pitch.

And all modern pitches are raised anyway to allow for drainage and irrigation.
