It's about 70-90 cm deep. And why would it be a problem anyway? All pitches are different. It's called home advantage.
well the field has to have enough give in it. It has to be soft to some extent and retain water...not dry out too quick or it will become hard. The ball must not bounce too much..that would be a disaster..a bit like the plastic pitches.
All you have are throw in,s for half the game...not good!

Does feel like there's a monumental amount still to do in order to get it ready for next season

There is but once it becomes internal stuff and fit out the weather becomes less of an issue and they can swamp the site

I’ve worked on new build retail stores that a week form opening looked like a shell at Best. Then they were mobbed by fit out teams doing the services, fridge, floor etc and amazingly they opened on time

This baby is not a corner shop!
The pics above are awesome. The sixth pic down has one of the builders so inspired,he.s making out he is out there in front of the crowd doing his bit..LOL
This really looks like the equivalent of the Colosseum in Rome. Built next to the Roman High Road!
I only hope we can match the atmosphere there!
Thumbs down to arse chelscum weststratfordspam manure kidneypuddle and for good measure err.can,t think of anyone else..
so two more thumbs down to arsebrick and chelbromocheatvitch...:)

You need to see the shops I’ve worked on... 200000 ft2 of new build in 16 weeks

And I’ve worked on stadiums too. A retail build im has far more challenges due to the nature of the services

I'm not concerned about the internal fit out at all for the reasons you mention and because they've already started. It feels like there's a lot of structural stuff left though - south stand, but south corners, roof, pitch perimeter work, glazing, parts outside the stadium etc. Feels like a unusually cold/wet winter could make it late; we've actually been lucky with the weather so far

I would imagine that the non completion penalties are pretty big for the companies involved. It'll get done on time, I'm sure.

Not the case it would seem, or at least not for Mace. It might be different for individual contractors/trades though.

Taken from minutes from the Trust's May 2017 meeting with the club :
  • DL stressed this (i.e. the buildi) was all at the Club’s risk – Mace wouldn’t work to a fixed price contract with this build as there were too many variables and Mace would not be responsible for any overruns. This is a complicated demolition and build.

The weather has been massively in our favour and I’m sure because of that some things are ahead too as well as others being behind

The structural stuff does go up quick, scarily quick at times if it’s steel work based.

We can’t control a lot of it but it will be factored in the programme I’m sure

Oh bugger. :)

You must have quite a skilled job then?
So most of the workers in the Stadium are highly skilled technicians also the building would have been all worked out with specialised software designed for buildings?
How much has building techniques come on over the years?

I work in commercial and procurement as a consultant now, so contract, price and payment. Trust me, everyone on that site will be on incentives to get the job done on time and right first time (we had that kind of contract for the city of Manchester stadium and on some Olympic sites.

The software works mainly around modelling for faults and design and crashing for services (so you don’t have water pipe going where electrics need to). You also now model for things such as thermal design, access and egress and can factor in a lot of councils requirements for energy usage (but still need various tests once built)

Wasn't this supposed to be the case with the new south stand? I.E It was always left (both demolition and build) until last because it's to mainly be a steel based structured and was always going to go up really quickly?
