Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - Licence To Stand

One thing that I really hoped would happen when we moved into the new stadium was that the fickleness of the support would erode and that fans would learn to Sing and support the team no matter how the game was going. Against City and Palace I believe that kind of atmosphere was prevalent. But during the Brighton game and West Ham game you could tell all the nerves were in and that was just listening to it through the TV. Maybe I am wrong. But the whole White Wall is supposed to be an area of non stop support no matter how the game is going. If we want it to emulate what happens at Dortmund then it starts with the fans.

It may be just settling in, gets some regularity with the place. People being sat in an area for a long time? Are we allowed Massive Flags? Drummers? etc to get the rhythm going? The potential is there, I hope it becomes as iconic as the shelf was and with the same constant noise levels. I kind of hate that I can hear the fans singing the "stand up if you hate Arse**l" song. I know why they do it. Its just to get everyone standing up and wind up the stewards. It happened all the time when I was a season ticket holder in the Park Lane end. I think the fans should be standing more, but more pro Spurs songs, and more lifting the team than them having to lift the fans.

I dont live in the country anymore. I go to games when I am home. So correct me if I am wrong. But I would love for it to just become this wall of sound no matter what is happening in the game.

that'll never happen, it has never been english football culture to sing non stop through a game

But thats my point. You say on "a good day" why cant the atmosphere be like that for 20 games. I see your point, I suppose what I am trying to say is that I would like to see a culture change in our support. So that Nerves are not the deciding factor.

Do you go to the games? Not having a dig, just wondering

The reason the atmosphere can be lacking is timing of games, opposition and fan motivation, tourist fans (good and bad), form etc...

I’ve been to Germany to watch games as a neutral and it can be over hyped as an experience. Firstly the tickets aren’t cheap unless you a season ticket holder (ad hoc tickets have a BIG premium to offset the season tickets) and the songs are orchestrated sporadically

Not any more unfortunately. Now that I live in Canada I can only go to second rate MLS games, and I get to Watch spurs only when I go home. I went to Wembley for 2 games over Xmas. I was a Season ticket holder for over 10 years before I moved country and I used to go up and down the country watching spurs.

I saw the decline in the general singing after standing got taken away. So I do go to games but not as many as I did. But I also go to games in whatever country I go to. I have been to the Nou Camp, Bernabau, Estadio da Luz, Estadio Dragao, Brugge Stadium etc etc so got about a bit as well. As well as tons of stadiums in North America.

I was saying that maybe it is my limited feeling of what is coming through on TV. But it was pretty obvious in the Brighton and Spammers games from what I could hear.

Well I was in Block 33 but was row 18, must be more Yids out this way. I have met up with the Canadian Spurs supporters on occasion to watch big games.

So seems we were sitting close. But not close enough.
 
Anyone else had a problem with people near and around them vaping in the stadium? Other than the fact that it stinks I’m sure there will be research that comes out later to show it’s not good for you despite what experts say now. Definitely gonna grass people up next season if they keep doing it. I hate vaping in general but it’s even more annoying when people blow it in your face.

Smoking in the toilets is the biggest issue for me

What's interesting is that the deciding factor in European tendencies to sing and chant throughout the game is usually the presence of ultras. They lead the choreography, more or less.

Palace have started up their own ultra group, who have been semi-officially sanctioned by the club because their atmosphere at Selhurst Park was crap at the start of the season. Apparently, the difference began becoming apparent (according to Palace fans) about midway through the season, and has stayed better since.

That's one way we could consider ramping up the atmosphere - we have the putative beginnings on an ultra group in the 1882 folks? Put them all together, let them stand and sing.

The only other way I can think of is to wait for safe standing, and then drastically lower prices in the single-tier stand to let less well-off folks consistently attend games - they will sing more than the present occupants, probably.

Tickets will never be reduced unless demand for a ticket goes down. If we have safe standing and for some reason it was not popular then seated tickets for that area would come back.

Only if we become cr*p will ticket prices reduce.

What I like that you get sometimes in English stadiums is the almost constant roar. City had that against Liverpool this season, I think Arsenal had it against us too at the Emirates. It really drives the players on.
