Toby Alderweireld

Especially with Poch’s high line. Both him and Vertonghen are slowing and have been caught more this season due to opposition pace.

How much down to those two or having to baby sit both full backs at times and having a CM with very little protection

Wouldn't surprise me if he ended up in Italy or France

Actually wouldn't surprise me if he signed a new deal

Actually don't really cafe what he does as long as he doesn't drag it out

By taking up the option for an additional year, a £25million release clause which runs from the start of the 2019 summer transfer window has been activated.

What's the catch?

When Spurs take up the option, it triggers a clause which states that the club must accept a bid of £25m or more for the Belgian if it arrives during the 2019 summer transfer window and comes before its final two weeks - in order for them to sign a replacement defender.

By taking up the option, the club activated a £25million release clause which kicks in at the start of this summer’s transfer window.

By taking up the year’s option, however, it also activates a £25m release clause which runs from the start of the 2019 summer transfer window until the last two weeks. The news comes several weeks after Spurs triggered an option on Jan Vertonghen’s contract. Mauricio Pochettino, the manager, said: “Yes, for sure. It is obvious. It is the same situation as Jan.”

By doing so, Spurs have activated a £25million release clause that runs up to the final two weeks of the summer transfer window

Sorry, yes - I was working the wrong way.

So the £25m window runs from 17 May to 26 July.

But he can also sign a pre-contract for nothing from 1 January

Which raises the nightmare scenario of Toby agreeing a massive signing-on fee with Arse or Cheatski in January whilst remaining on our books until the end of the season.

Odds are though that a whole raft of clubs will be keen to cough up the £25m this window, in which case we have to hope that one of them will offer a better payday than either of those two clams.

Unless of course Toby has been using this nightmare scenario all along as a bargaining tool to extract the maximum out of Levy for a new contract, but that's probably just wishful thinking on my part.

I reckon he will see out the last year of his contract and then collect a nice signing on fee. He's at the age where he''s going to be able to make fewer demands, so this would be his best move.

I can see the same, as long as he keeps trying in that last season I wouldn’t begrudge him that though. He’d be what 32? Not a bad time to part ways and we wouldn’t get a huge fee for a 32 year old even if he did sign a couple of years extension.

No - you can only agree a pre-contract 6 months before with an overseas club. Domestic ones have to wait until the contract expires
