Re: Tim Sherwood -Your Manager! 18 month contract confirmed!

Mate, honestly, Hoddle is a better decision than Sherwood.

You do realize this guy has never managed a club right? not even championship level, if he succeeds, I'll honestly question if managers have any impact at all.

The next thing is retaining and attracting players, who the **** wants to come play under Sherwood?

You really think the club couldn't find a single manager with 5/10/15 years experience? at the salaries we pay managers (our manager is usually close to highest paid in PL)

This, said it before (as have others) is a ****ing punt, completely unprofessional and would have caused a **** storm if we were still a PLC.

He has the advantage of having won the Premiership as a player. He also won't be buying anyone in January. Given the unavailability of top targets until the summer, I'm at a loss to imagine what else could've been done right now. Sherwood's coming in at a very very good time for him; two very winnable home games, a lot of the tough games over for a bit...

Re: Tim Sherwood -Your Manager! 18 month contract confirmed!

Timmy felt he had us by the balls and used it for a longer contract, all this **** about turmoil at the club probably put off a few of the real managers

Re: Tim Sherwood -Your Manager! 18 month contract confirmed!

I think some of you need to get your head out of the gutter (not aimed at you GB - but no pun intended although I think its ****in hilarious my joke - you cant teach that ****e)

Give the guy a ****in break. I gave AVB a break.

I'll give the guy a break when you can tell me what club he has managed before, in any ****ing league, and got any results/trophies/win%/anything that gives him creditability?

Oh .. wait .. nope, we just took a punt ..

Re: Tim Sherwood -Your Manager! 18 month contract confirmed!

Having made what I consider to be the wrong decision in sacking AVB, I think Daniel Levy has done the right thing in appointing Tim Sherwood as our permanent (whatever that means!) manager.

Sherwood was being groomed as a future Spurs manager and his chance has come sooner, rather than later.

I just hope that all Spurs fans will now get behind him and fully support our new manager.

Oh... and as for never managing a club before, neither did Bill Nicholson or Keith Burkinshaw.

+1

Experience isn't as cracked up as it is meant to be - how long was Mourinho managing before he won the Champions League? And im sure if anyine could be bothered to spend two minutes on google they could hive you plenty if examples of experienced managers who ballsed up a job conpletely.

The man has been at the club longer than any manager we've had in a long time - that counts

Re: Tim Sherwood -Your Manager! 18 month contract confirmed!

Certainly like this about the appointment. And I agree, not bothered if he supported Chelsea,West Ham,Woolwich, etc: as long as he has our best interests at heart.

b/t/w I think you can change your avatar too now

Do we get bonus league points from the FA or EPL for hiring a young English former player?

If not then that is a meaningless criteria on whether he should get the job or not

If we don't buy a LB in January we are really ****ing around.

Re the two games, that's fine, I just wonder what people's attitude will be if the Scum second string hand us our ass by a large margin on the 4th

I'm sure that we will see some youth prospects come in January and probably a striker, if Defoe is off.

Benny will be back now that AVB has gone. To be fair, we would be going some to buy a better left back in January

so now you want hoddle :) If he succeeds you will question managers impact at all??????? please I thought you were a more sensible poster than that!!!!!

Players are going to be attracted to play for spurs if we play attractive football and we are fighting high in the league.....players care more for opportunity/wages than the manager.

Of course we could hire someone with 5-10-15-20 years experience......But as a club we have promoted from within...we have given a young hungry english coach a chance......I actually feel proud of my club and I hope it works out.

We can agree to disagree on this issue fella.....in general I think your a great poster with great views but your predjudice seems to be driving your argument...

its happened.....roll with it.......get behind the team.......feel free to save this post and rub it in my face in the near future if you wish.

Re: Tim Sherwood -Your Manager! 18 month contract confirmed!

Let's face it, Levy has gone for foreign coaches, traditional English coaches, young coaches, old managers, who else is left?

I'm skeptical to say the least and he wouldn't have been my choice but more than willing to give Sherwood a chance.

Sorry but your argument about who wants to play for Sherwood is a load of nonsense. Current players have alluded to their respect for him, and harry Redknapp commented on the fact that players in the main don't care who the manager is, more how much they're going to get paid. Spurs are a big pull no matter what....

Re: Tim Sherwood -Your Manager! 18 month contract confirmed!

Just a few questions, as this has me really stumped - no agenda here, honest!

Why is promoting from within better?
Why is young better?
Why is English better?

He's going to bring BAE back.

I think his best chance of 4th will be to only have the league to concentrate on. I think we can kiss goodbye to trophies for another season. A shame as I thought we were odds on for the Europa...

Re: Tim Sherwood -Your Manager! 18 month contract confirmed!

Thats just it - its a complete gamble. There is absolutely no FACT which you can use as the basis of thinking that he'll make a decent manager. Its a complete punt

Well one fact is that we scored 3 and could have scored 5 against the meanest defence in the EPL.
Another fact is we scored against West Ham and were not humiliated like under AVB.

18 month contract on not very high wages can be extended or ripped up depending on results.

Next 4 games with last years results are

H WBA 1-1
H STOKE 0-0
A MAN UTD 3-2
A ARSENAL FA CUP

He has a couple of games to bed his ideas in before Utd and a couple of wins and a draw and that is better than last term.

Arsenal were not exactly terrifying tonight.

Swap Defoe for a big striker in January, give Kane and maybe Coulthirst a proper chance and we are scoring goals again.

Ok so he don't talk proper but neither does Alan Sugar and he has been reasonably successful.

I'm in total agreement .

I never wanted AVB gone but Sherwood has my support.

Re: Tim Sherwood -Your Manager! 18 month contract confirmed!

the man brought back the 442 wonky

he has my vote

we will make top 4

we are in with a shout to win the league

we will be quite scary at home with the right personnel in this formation

No mate, I don't want Hoddle, I think he's a nut job and would be destined to fail. what I'm saying is Hoddle is a BETTER choice than Sherwood.

He has all the "positives" that everyone seems to think helps Tim, i.e. knows the club, is a good youth coach, was a PL player, etc. Plus he's actually managed at highest levels.

I guess I'm still naïve, there is no level of madness/circus Spurs won't go to, of all the appointments, this really got me. I was really hoping we weren't doing the give up on another season ****, hate remembering all those years we had **** all to play for by January.

Re: Tim Sherwood -Your Manager! 18 month contract confirmed!

Just a few questions, as this has me really stumped - no agenda here, honest!

I would speculate that any of the 'long-term' prospects were not available right now.
I would speculate that anyone of age and experience who was desirable was not available now.
I would speculate that right now, foreign coaches we might want are unavailable until the end of the season, and perhaps SOME foreign coaches will look at Jol, Ramos and now AVB and speculate that they will not get the time they need at ours.

The Van Gaal thing has me interested, and what I would speculate is that he will become a part of our club in the summer perhaps at the expense of Baldini?

I think you'd have a point if we didn't have a Sporting Director upstairs. This is one of the main aspects. Having someone come in who hasn't built up the connections, contacts and knowhow to deal with the market can be problematic. With us, this should largely be down to Baldini so Sherwood can concentrate on the day to day. It should be noted he's 'head coach' not manager. And it has happened in recent times. Guardiola had one year with the Barcelona 'B' team and they gave him the job of coach of one of the biggest clubs in the world! In a more extreme example, Liverpool in the mid 80s made Kenny Dalglish player manager. No prior coaching experience or anything. Sherwood has at least had 5 years in charge of the development squad. It is not like he's new to managing players. It largely comes down to personality and character. Some have got it and others don't. Sherwood has obviously impressed people on that front.
