Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

Car crash? We'll probably finish in the same place in the table as last season under the Portuguese genius.

Like I say mate, all these jokers appear to be under the illusion that we were champions last season and title contenders this season up until AVB ****ed off and TS got us back to challenging for fourth. ****ing funny

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

I am surprised you have tossed your hat in the ring for LVG, I thought you would be more likely to give Tim a chance bearing in mind that you were talking up such young English, coaches like Eddie Howe not so long ago. Personally I fear that we are walking into a car crash with LVG.

I back LVG because he has the best c.v and is best qualified, though of course he has not done it in England I feel he represents our best chance of success going forward.

The Eddie Howe thing is half serious half tongue in cheek. If we were to go for an English coach it would be Dyche but lets see how he does with Burnley in the prem first. He deserves his chance because he has worked his way up the leagues.

My issues with Sherwood are that he is showing an increase emotional instability and recklessness I also feel that if he really wanted to be a coach then why did he not do his coaching badges before now, he is 45.

I do back English coaches but my main bug bear is how we are run by Levy. I feel if he was to come out and say that while we sort the stadium issue out we will have to cut back on spending and if then appointed an English coach. Inglethorpe would have been the perfect one what with him knowing our youth set up so well.

But in the summer we went out and spent a lot of money on 7 new players, although I did not like his style of play I accept that avb had trouble integrating them all into the team. But it comes from Levy this constant drive to make the champs(money) league and that means we can not build a team.

To be honest I would love for the club to come out and say European football is not the target next season but they want to give the coach time to build a team.

This will never happen with Levy in charge and that is why I feel we need the most experienced manager we can get to run the side.

Agreed.

I honestly don't think that we'll get such a good chance to get a manager like Van Gaal. Would be our biggest appointment since... well perhaps the most successful manager we've ever appointed? Have to take it whilst we can.

And if it doesn't work then I'm afraid nothings going to work under the Levy era. If we get Van Gaal and he fails I will accept that Levys plan just isn't going to work and that it's time for him to leave.

Exactly LVG is the best chance we have. Is similar to in your personal life when a great opportunity comes along you upgrade. But I will never for the life of me understand the hatred that Sherwood gets and coming from 2 mods/admin. I find it odd that people can go after him so heavily and I have lost a little respect for the people for doing so.

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

I think that if we all took a 3 year plunge, Sherwood could develop into a fine manager. But that patience won't happen. From Levy or us TBH.

I don't get it either. I think given time Sherwood will turn into a decent coach but I can't see this club being patient enough with him. Could do with a midtable Premier League job with some stability.

It is kind of odd what strong emotions Sherwood has brought out in people. I can ask you because you are not one of them but why do you think it is?

Clearly people are projecting part of their own personalities onto the manager but I am now wondering about the psychological make up of some members of this board.

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

We will only ever find out if Sherwood's predecessor shakes off the gag order he must've taken in order to receive his pay-off...

I'm sure you are right which is why I am questioning BoL's certainty.

There's no reason why he can't go to the championship and learn his trade, then come back if he shows any promise. It's no difference to Townsend or Carroll going to QPR.

I don't expect he will though - if he'd had any serious coaching talent, he'd've started work in the lower leagues a decade ago.

I tend to agree, but I think both the board and the fans would have a fair indication of whether it is going in the right direction after 18 months, two pre-seasons and a fair chunk of change spent.

What makes you think this? Tactically he looks woefully inept. Is he really going to get us competing with the top teams in England? The evidence so far is that he will not imo

Has he though? I agree he is no mourinho but in the last 3 games he has surprised me by setting us up pretty well. Granted we still start poorly which he doesn't seem to have overcome and he needs to work harder with the defence who are committing too many individual errors (perhaps it's more a mental thing with them). But I think he has kept us on course to finish fifth despite coming in mid season. It has been a weird season though Mourinho's Chelsea have looked unbeatable one week then lose to Villa the next. Pellegrini had looked like his team would blow away any one at the Etihad only to lose to Wigan in the cup.

What "evidence" are you judging him on? If results, he has the best record of any Spurs manager. If performances, when has he had a settled side? When could he pick his strongest team? We haven't been able to field the same team twice running under him.

We simply don't have enough evidence at present.

We pretty much matched Arsenal and Chelsea (11 v 11 anyway) recently. We were close against a good Benfica team at a time of turmoil and a lot of injuries. In all those matches we seemed to have balance and solidity in our team. Against SCBC today our tactics looked pretty good and our team balanced and naturally shaped. Chadli, Eriksen, Soldado, Bentaleb and Adebayor are all playing their best football of the season.

In many ways it is up to the anti Sherwood phalanx to prove their case that he's inept rather than the other way around. Yeah, we sucked balls against Norwich and weren't fantastic in a couple of other games, but the idea all the evidence is on the side of Sherwood being a gimp is simply not true.

Has there ever been a manager that you think is tactically sound? And if there is, I bet there are as many defeats and examples of performances in their sides as there has been under Sherwood.

I think if he was tactically inept the players would spot it pretty quickly. He's got some basis of knowledge, but I think other factors right now are preventing us from being a consistent machine.
