Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

I dabbled in local politics. The party told me they would no longer be requiring my subscriptions when I told a potential voter who blamed everything on immigration that he was a ****.

Quite right to, I should not have to put up with being spoken to like this.

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

Its not as if Fergie hasn't gone on a rant like that on TV and said things very similar to Tim.

When did Fergie do it? I never recall him having a pop at players for "not having character", "some I can rely on. Some I can't" or "I won't forget about it when I get to the motorway but some will." I'll stand corrected if I'm wrong but I don't recall that sort of attack. The only criticism of his team I recall is him having a pop at them collectively (i.e. the team was sh!te today).

On Saturday, if Fergie was managing us, I bet he'd have come out and said "This is the second time in as many months that we've wrongly had a player sent off and a penalty awarded against the top 4. It's ridiculous. It's hard enough to compete on our budget but when you're getting those sorts of decision against you, you can't win. It's scandalous. The FA need to have a look. We could have been better, we've made some mistakes and I'll correct that during the week but the boys were out on their feet at the end because of that bad decision." You can be sure that behind closed doors, he'd have had his go at some of the players.

Next time there is a tackle in our area against a big club (Arsenal or Liverpool for example), the ref will think twice about giving it. The players know the manager has their back in public even if he ******** them in private. Fergie was the master of creating a siege mentality which is what a response like the above might have helped create.

I loved how immediately after that comment, his face sort of refreshed and he said something like "anyway, we move on - Thursday is ….", like he just forgotten it.

Great post. However, Tim knows he is 99.9999999% out of a job in the summer so the rest of this season for him is about positioning himself for his next job, projecting an image for his next employer and getting experience as a head coach.

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

Its such a phoney world we live in sometimes, so now were going to cane a manager for being honest and showing a bit of passion, a guy who has stepped in and answered Levy's call.

Yes lets ask our manager to champion excuses like....referees....poor decisions and red cards, heck its far easier to do that than to look deep into our soul and try and identify the real problem! The same people would be on here calling him out for excuses if that was the spiel he came out with, you would prefer a manager who 'plays the game'?? and keeps things totally in house....ok then..

His reaction was fine by me....the guy Hates losing and Hates Capitulation.

So much sympathy for the poor players, what about the fans who scrape by and went to watch their team wave the white flag? not even bothering to acknowledge the fans that remained at the end of the game?

Just ask yourself how difficult it would be, place yourselves in Sherwood's shoes....a paltry contract where the players wont buy into you because they doubt you will last until the summer...constant speculation about other managerial appointments over your head, a squad which has had a massive overhaul many of them still trying to settle, Levy is a big part of the mess we are in.

In the main I think Sherwood has done well and if he has lost his cool in an interview than fair do's im not suprised the pressure he is under/the pressure he is putting on himself, I dont think its fair he gets caned on here but lets be honest, some on here havent been fair to Sherwood from day 1.

I think we are getting exactly what we deserve this season...which will probably amount to F all! from what I have seen of Tim over his tenure he has been far more flexible tactically than AVB ever was...yes he has made mistakes and has also made some very astute tactical choices.

I would wonder what Sherwood could do without the circus going on in the background but who knows.

Players publicy slam managers/ex managers/referees etc...... why should it not work the other way?

Fair play Tim you gave an honest interview and didnt come out with the usual football cliche's...you have done your best under difficult circumstances, if he goes elswhere im sure he will become a very good manager as the years go by....we will hire x amount of saviour coaches and keep on repeating mistakes because thats what we do, winning nothing in the process.

Shouldnt feel so low because we are fifth and have a shot at europa....at this point I feel the whole season has been a massive train wreck.

I agree with the sentiment of your post 100%.

However, Tim's job is to get results for Tottenham Hotspur. When you boil it down, that's what he'll be judged by. He has to find the best way to do that.

None of the great managers ever, to the best of my recollection, come out and do what Tim did. They don't for a reason - players don't respond well to public humiliation any better than you or I. Therefore, no matter how right Tim is, if his rant doesn't make the situation better then he's failed in his job. His job is to get results and get the best out of his players, not say what every fan is thinking or wants to hear.

For the record, I think Tim has done well results-wise so far and I'd love to see him do well with us. I just think he's made a bad rookie mistake.

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

People are reacting as if he named players. He never said 'Vertonghen I can't count on, but Eriksen I can.'

So where had he publicly shamed individual players? They only reason they could be demotivated by his comment is if they know he was talking about them; by which account, they don't give a fuuck anyway so what is there to lose?!

Surely we'll know because they're the ones who get dropped?

If he doesn't drop them then clearly they're not as untrustworthy as he has suggested and he was just whining/deflecting blame from himself (delete as applicable).

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

Who cares? If some of our players are that precious they can't handle criticism then they shouldnt be playing for our club...

Not necessarily so. If he has not other option in a certain position they might get a game. And your perspective on the rant depends on whether you are pro- or anti-Sherwood.

Sherwood's Spurs managerial career could be over in a few short weeks and he knows that unless he gets CL or wins the EL then he's probably out of a job, maybe he is either way. I think this outburst is impassioned, but I also think it is a calculated gamble for Sherwood. He's looking for a reaction from the players by questioning their courage and professionalism, and it could be that he has tried this approach because he is not seeing the desired response using alternative methods. If we get a positive reaction from the players then it is the right move, but obviously it could backfire badly. Too early to say yet though IMO.

Yes results is always the main thing that we judge our managers on, no problem with that, we havent won at the bridge since 1990 I think so some perspective is required.

I think its far to early to class this as a mistake...lets see how we get on with the next two games. But I respect your post...you have been balanced...you think it was a mistake..fair enough.

The problem for me is we have had too many of these capitulations where the players have been protected only for it to happen again...so why not try a new tact...and after the on field behaviour we witnessed...Im comfortable with what Tim said.

Tim is Tim and is obviously not everyone's cup of tea...at least he is what he is with no phoney bul**it...give me an honest man every day of the week...football has plenty of excuse makers, fakers and talkers of codswallop.

So many people want to buy into a myth...I want to buy into a person...Tim is rough around the edges but is a character we need at our club.

He has a lot to learn...as do those who cant appreciate the very difficult circumstances he is trying to work under. This guy has helped encourage the likes of Rose, Walker...they have said as much that he has been a factor in them breaking through...he has worked for the better of our club for five years! he has stepped in when no one else wanted the job.

he aint perfect but neither does he deserve some of the riculous sh** he gets...stuff like the very first post on this thread.

I for one am grateful for what he is trying to do and what he has done.

If the players have anything about them they will WANT to make ammends...not for the fans...not for tim....maybe not for the UCL club they want to be signed up for but for THEMSELVES!!! that Capitulation along with all the others that have gone before it are a disgrace to our football club and for players of that ability!!!

Tim was 100% right about some of our players.... AVB was right about our fans mentality......F**k me we need to make improvements in all area's!!

Yeah I agree. The proof will be in the next few results. I'm just offering an opinion on how I see it going. I really hope I'm wrong.

sorry just another quick question.

Beckham....Publicly slaughtered after the world cup...murdered by fans the following season...how did he respond to public criticism????

very well in my opinion...and its that kind of drive and ambition we would like in our players no?

either you have a burning desire to prove yourself and others wrong.....or you search around for excuses without looking at yourself and make the same mistakes.

if its a call to arms I wonder how many of our squad will pick up spears and slap war paint on their faces???

Surely if they're that untrustworthy that the press and the public need to know about it we'll just find another way. A youth player - Timmeh seems to trust these. Or maybe someone out of position - he has quite the penchant for that too.

Big difference between the public having a pop and your manager having a pop.

On a side note, Beckham, despite the public perception of being a bit of a nancy boy, was arguably one of the toughest players mentally I've ever seen.

Re: Tim Sherwood - Head Coach

Which motorway runs between Chelsea and Tottenham? Takes me about two hours stuck in traffic to go from north London to South west London. And don't say the north circ because that would take even longer.

What proportion of football managers would you describe as dishonest? They all strike me as pretty honest (except the likes of Redknapp) - in fact, honesty is a fairly important trait in being a successful manager in any walk of life. How do you reconcile the success of others with a lack of honesty?

But Glen Hoddle....ledge that he is did call Beckham out! he blamed our exit on him.

The same Glenn who thinks tim should have reined his neck in. I love Glenn but kettles and pots and the colour black and all that.
