Thomas Frank Thread

I'm not a fan (think he's a bit too direct for me), but I see the logic of safe hands (similar while I wasn't a huge Nuno fan, I wasn't as anti his appointment as others were).

The issue is how do you define successful? I think very similar to Nuno, given some time/patience (in first half of season), I fully expect Frank to finish in the top 5/6. Is that enough?

I'd argue with the scale of change to first team (painful rebuild done), plus the amount of youth invested in, a couple of years of consistency, player development and the additional incoming over next 2-3 windows, is not a bad outcome.

Never understood the dislike for direct football.
Personally think it's much more exciting seeing a team go from defence to attack with 4-5 passes to score a goal than 50.

After being extremely against his appointment, I am coming round to the idea of Frank now. It is certainly "sensible". I just hope the football isn't brick.

Fine line between direct and hoof it long and hope, transition/counter teams can be exciting, watching teams play percentage football? not so much (not that I'm accusing Frank of doing that).

I wonder what Frank has been told about support in the market and whether in his first transfer window he has given one or two key positions that we must buy for?

Is he being hired more because of being happy to work with what he is given (coaches, players etc) and won't be demanding/rock the boat?

Also, why has Iraola seemingly fallen off the radar? Has he given the impression he wants to sign an extension with Bournemouth?

Update

[Romano on Youtube] There is agreement between Tottenham and Thomas Frank on the project, salary, length of contract, budget, positions, and players to target

How often are these managers given a chance?

Potter got Chelsea?
Howes done pretty well even though wasn't a direct move
Also haven't we always referenced the 'trophy handout chart ' ?....so applying it to this debate...if you haven't stepped up to Chelsea Liverpool or City ...there's not much success left to reap.

Who was the last to step up and fail?

Top PL clubs don't tend to go for managers who have proven themselves lower down
Does Slot count as lower down? And I would have said Poch and Maresca, but you could argue we're not a top PL club and Chelsea is debatable.

I pray this ends well - because if it doesnt .. we are back to where we were pre-Ange.

I wouldn't say so, we've got a lot of talented young players with top level experience (or at least more experience than they had) and players who know they're good enough to win a trophy. And champions league alongside the money that comes with it.

Whilst the whole thing seems a bit off (maybe it's sentimental but Ange earned the right to give it a go in the Super Cup for example), if we can get Frank done and dusted, it at least shows a plan. The main question is whether he can rescue the league form whilst competing on multiple fronts.

Always seemed like a decent guy, expectations are different here but I'll get right behind the current setup even if there's a tinge of guilt / sadness for the man just gone*. Maybe we could go full Danish and get Eriksen back to coach.

*Speaking as someone that wanted him gone for his own sake during the petulant arguing with fans / journos
