The transfer window thread.

Competition for Foyth?
[Alfredo Pedulla] Inter Milan will offer #thfc €17m including bonuses for Christian Eriksen with hope that a deal will be agreed tomorrow.

So now it's gone from €11m to €17m in 12 hours. At this rate, Levy will get us our €100m before the end of the window :D
He's a red card magnet, if someone is seriously suggesting this guy we have problems.

Are you saying that Levy has had the same goals and expectations for the last 10 years?
Each new manager has not had to improve or show a prospect of improvement?

No.

You said rising expectations was your gripe. I asked who was rising these expectations. You said Levy. I asked for an example...and here we are!

So if they aren't the same, they aren't going down I think it's safe to assume they are rising.

Fair play. That was our stadium slogan wasn't it: watch us rise. Bit of dodgy one! If we look at the scum, and what they went through, I think we can be pleased we appear to be in a much better position. But debt has to be paid off each year, so that will nibble our spend down a little. Getting CL compensates. Whether we will next year is highly unlikely. Therefore you have to spend accordingly.

That's really what I've been trying to say, accommodations should have been made in our expectations, from the outside looking in it appears Levy thought this squad could go on forever.

£100m in one summer is not the whole truth though is it, how much over the last five windows for instance?

We bought 26 players under Poch. We did not spend no money. Our problem has been that our recruitment has been almost universally brick. Since the early days of Dele, Wanyama and Toby, only Son has really been a success. We frittered money away on a whole collection of clowns. Janssen, the N'Twins, etc etc. The whole problem has not been how much we spent but who we spent it on. Our recruitment policy has been a complete failure and has left us in this dire situation we now find ourselves in.

Compare and contrast to Leicester's since they won the PL. They lost key players in Mahrez, Kante, both their aged centre halves and the guy who went to chelsea for shedloads of money. But they have rebuilt without spending a fortune. And when they did spend mega money on Maguire, they got a huge speedy return. Look at the current successes in their team that didn't break the bank. I would guess their net spend is way less than ours. Its all down to successful recruitment. This does not necessarily mean having to break the bank.

Yes we did get a lot of players, we went for quantity over quality.
Quite a lot were nowhere near first team quality at the time of our signing them.
While the squad was strong and on point we could get away with that, but as the squad weakened it became more and more of a gamble, a gamble that has ultimately failed.
Who is or was responsible in the past is now history and we can not be certain, what I am pretty sure of is that Jose is the man to shake it up, and if he doesn't get his way he will not be long in pointing fingers.

We need to know who was responsible to make sure the same errors don't continue
