Surely now is the time to close down that disgraceful organisation.

The systematic targeting of closeted gay public figures, for doing nothing more than using mainstream website/apps and having consenting adult relationships, is abhorrent.

Time to beef up our privacy laws and put an end to evil witch-hunts like this.

Yeh and again alot of conflation about being gay and a nonce being spouted in alot of the comment section (I assume you are talking Huw Edwards)

We live in a society where dating apps and OF is made the norm, its not what I would do but you can't have it all ways. I don't think its a good look but I would say if you peered behind the veil of the majority of society you would be judging everyone.

I don't wanna go down this slope that people are made guilty before trial and I think thats the way we are heading in the UK. All the bedroom reporters on social media doing nothing to help.

*Edit - Alastair Campbell just put the thing to bed on BBC for me, rightly said there is bigger news, too much conflation between this and Saville and Co which is bad taste, the whole "cover up" thing. Also after the wrongful allegations before and need for privacy the press has learned nothing. Bigger news out there but loads of deflection from those with this and whats a great hit for the press, high profile man shamed and will no doubt be cynically lied about with his mental health too, despite talking about it in the past. BRAVO

He hasn't done anything illegal, however I think there is enough there for safe guarding questions to be raised, or do we wait until it turns out to be another Saville, harris, spacey or any other number of celebraties who have abused their position. Not saying that it would have, but there's enough precedents to at least err on the side of caution.
Could it have been handled any better, definitely.
As i understand it the bbc were aware of the allegations and the family only approached the sun when the family felt they weren't getting anywhere with the bbc.
I don't think anyone comes out of this very well tbh.

I agree no one comes out of this well but I would say its more a use of money and an app to make a transaction to fulfil his need than an abuse of power. From what I understand he has not used his status to approach young men at work in order to pressure them and put his power to work and if you are approaching mutual adults in whats now a every day method aka online, they have the ability to say no.

IF and its an If, if the extent is whats happened then at worse its actions not befitting the standards and he probably loses his job. The conflation that I have seen today and over extensive reporting, is way beyond many peoples interest IMO

Yes totally agree, for what's been revealed its all a total over reaction. However I think initially there's enough there that someone has to be looking at it.
Should have been done privately, out of the glare of the press, but it did need looking at.
Going to the sun does throw some shade on the parents motives imv, but maybe that's just my bias against the sun showing.

Yeh and I think the beeb have messed up in that their systems are broke and in fact to overcompensate they have thrown their own bloke under a bus to look to be doing more.

Why is it a safeguarding issue? Buying photos from a CamGuy through a regulated sex worker website?

If no one who worked for a public organisation is allowed to use Grinder, Tinder or Only Fans, everywhere would be staffed by over 70s only.

Firstly the bbc have a history of cover ups, a family have approached them with concerns over the behaviour towards one of their children. Should they just ignore it?
Don't you think they should at the very least approach the staff member and ask for their version of events?
If, as it is in this case, nothing illegal has taken place they can then return to the parents and explain that as it is two consenting adults its not a matter they can pursue.
It is all our duty of care to ensure that children are protected from predators, if someone approached me about one of my family, friends or staff with concerns they had about their behaviour towards their child i would do my damned best to find out what was going on.
I cannot dismiss a parents concerns so flippantly, it may rock peoples boat to be able to have a pop at the sun, fair enough and i get that, i also have doubts over anyone who would go to the sun with such a story, but at the end of the day i would still want to be sure as i possibly can that no child/yiung adult is coming to harm.
 
It's not the same exact issue but slightly linked based on the original accusations (seemingly lies from the scummy tabloid), I still think it's weird as fudge that in the UK it's a crime to have / purchase a sexual image of a 17 year old but you could legally have real life sex with a 16 year old. How does that make sense?

Age of consent really needs lifting up to 18.

What about the CamGuy's hundreds of other customers? Should their employers investigate them too? Isn't it just blackmail that his parents have gone after the one they'd potentially get something out of?

If someone came to me and told me that they thought theur child was potentially being abused i would look into it. It could turn out to be nothing, i wouldn't want to take that chance.
Yes i would doubt their motives/objectives if they were in touch with the sun, but i would still want to know the child was ok.
My first priority is the welfare of the child/young adult.

But they are working through a regulated company. It's Only Fans' responsibility to check their age of their contractors, not people accessing their material. Just the same as it is for other porn sites and the actors in their films.

Let's assume they are good and decent parents, if they approached you and said they had concerns over the behaviour of a colleague of ours towards their child would you dismiss it?
No, you would look into it.
If its all above board fair enough, but until you look you don't know that.
Do you think the parents would mention the only fans or any other app, i don't, in my experience parents only see other people's kids doing that kind of thing.
 
I think the BBC could have done better, but they will get thousands of reports from concerned citizens like this year each year, there is a process.

It seems the family have them barely more than a month to investigate.

Having worked for large organisations in my career I can easily see that any investigation would take months.

That they went to the sun was bad judgement by the family, people will assume they are just out to make some money. If the concern was ethics and safeguarding, you’d go to a proper journalist.
 
Are we now in a time which is now an instant world which means peoples lack patience has meant that their demand for info now means they tend to believe things they really should be questioning more? With this example there was a clear we want info now now now which then means that people in the meantime believe what ever they read, often on rent a journo on social media which adds to the fire. I have been thinking about it alot recently and with the news with Dele it got me thinking more, do we now as humans have a greater responsibility to take a more waiting brief for actual facts to emerge in order to show greater empathy towards all people or is it now open season? My fear is that the horse bolted a long time ago
 
Have I missed something? I’ve read half a dozen articles from different media outlets re this story and not seen one mention of Huw Edwards being gay or the person he paid being a man. Also not seen any confirmation that it was through OnlyFans but I guess that’s highly likely given how popular the platform is.

I saw some celebrity lawyer on Twitter was having a go at the Sun for being homophobic over all this.

I wonder whether his hundreds of other customers also paid the thousands of pounds that were sustaining a crippling drug habit. Allegedly.
