The Stats Thread

Just to put that into perspective, here are where Man United take their shots from and where we take our shots from.

Man United:

10% 6 yard box.

55% 18 yard box.

35% out of the box.

-------

Us:

5% 6 yard box.

39% 18 yard box.

55% out of the box.

Where'd you get these from Fuego?

Would also like to know where these were located, however it's all likely an issue of confidence.

Man United have patience that can only be built out of winning. They expect to win games, so they are unlikely to get frustrated and take too many pot shots from range, as they are confident they will break down the opposition sooner or later.

We on the other hand still have issues breaking teams down. If we could cut down on the wasteful long range shots and keep the possession, we would be far more able to break the opposition down. After all how many shots are scored from outside of the box compared with how many are straight off for a goal kick or just easy for the keeper to catch? I would assume the conversion ratio from outside the box is poor.

Lyon: No team has scored more goals in the Europa League this season than Lyon (15), with 10 coming in open play and 5 from set pieces

That was before our 2nd match against them.

Inter: Have scored 13 goals from open play in the Europa League this season - more than any other side in the competition

We seem to keep being drawn against teams that will test our defence.

Tonight was Spurs' eighth league win away from home, which is a club record. How high can they finish?

Apparently..

Apparently..

8-2-4 away from home this season, just 1 point behind last season's final total of 7-6-6 and 27 points.

Remaining away games: Liverpool, Swansea, Chelsea, Wigan, Stoke

Way, way out.*

*Unless of course you're referring to that relatively recent introduction in the 125 year history of league football, the Premier League?

Tottenham Hotspur Player's Statistics 2012-13

All ratings here are taken from the votes given to players after a match from the forum members of TFC and Glory Glory.

Huh? Come again? AVB won the Manager of the Month award or did you miss the memo?

Sure. He did. He won all 3 league games in February and progressed to the next round of the Europa League to boot (although I believe this is not taken into consideration for the award). In terms of ratings however? Well, Gareth Bale's 8.25 for the month and Hugo Lloris' 7.56 both broke the previous high of 7.54 for a month, which Jan Vertonghen got back in September, but what about the rest of the team?

In the 5 games we played in February the game average was actually the exact same as the current season average - 6.38, and of the players who played at least half the games only Dawson, Gallas and Holtby got over that along with Bale and Lloris.

Adebayor had another bad month, his return from the African Cup of Nations clearly not making any difference, by getting another worst player of the match award (8 in 22 games now and more than any other player) as well as worst player of the month to add to his December award also. Close behind him is Dempsey who is back to his early season poor form with 5.5 and his two under 5.5 ratings for the month means he now has the most under 5.5 performances in the season with 10 in 29 games.

Scott Parker probably had his worst month since joining Spurs with a 5.74 for the month and the lowest score of the month of 4.76 vs Lyon (A). Mousa Dembele hasn't been playing too well either for the second month running and Lennon's form is nowhere near his high of 7.02 for October but also not as bad as his low of 5.97 in November. Vertonghen has had another below average month with 6.26 but an improvement on last month's 5.74 and although Walker is still getting below average monthly scores he has improved on his season average of 5.99 with 6.15 this month.

Enough of the negatives though, Dawson's 6.83 is his best month so far giving him an above season average of 6.59 in 17 games. Fantastic return for someone who was meant to be sold at the beginning of the season. Assou-Ekotto is also slowly picking up his performances with a just below average 6.29 and Gallas' 6.67 is his best of the season, not bad for someone who didn't play a game in January and won't be earning a new contract if the reports are true. Defoe's absence also means Holtby has come in and earns himself a very good 6.64. No settling in period for the young Anglo-German hybrid, who other than Bale and Lloris was the only other player to get a rating higher than 7.5 in a game this month.

So over to Lloris and Bale. Lloris had his best month for Spurs with a fantastic 7.56 however that man Bale's 8.25 for the month with four MOTM awards in five games means not only has he overtaken Vertonghen's six awards with eight of his own now but he's now well in front on the over 7.5 performances with 12 (Sandro next closest with 8) and has taken the lead on player of the season with a season average of 7.06. Just 0.06 more than Sandro and another 0.04 ahead of of Lloris.

The stats below show us how the season has progressed and how Bale has progressed as well. Average rating for the season is 6.38.

Think Holtbys numbers are quite harsh. He has certainly better against Saudi Sportswashing Machine than he was against West Brom.

Obviously I'm kidding about Holtby. He's played well except against the spammers after which he was rightly marked down.

His playing style reminds me very much of VDV, minus the goals at the moment. Today is as good a day as any to rectify that.

i actually think what that shows is the public signature of familiarity...and their adverse reaction to purchases once those people are hit a steady stream of form

people just get bored quickly

I thought it showed that when you haven't played many matches a low rating affects it far more.

Here's how Tottenham did in the 10 remaining matches we have left to play last season (swap Southampton with Bolton)...

...that was 18 points from the 10 matches.

However, we're a much more solid team than we were at this time last season, so I would realistically expect a decent improvement on that points total.

In fact, we're currently averaging around 2.33 points per game in the second half of the 2012-13 season, so if we maintain that until the end of the season, we should be looking at an extra 23 points for a total of 77 for the season.

Whether or not it will be enough to snatch second place off Emirates Marketing Project is very debatable (personally, I don't think it will be enough), but it should certainly be good enough for a Top Four Finish and perhaps even third place.

zin - i could go crazy with those stats :)

if you had the time you might want to correlate individual player performance to team performance across all those games. it looks like bale's performance was very closely tied to the teams performance just by looking at those peaks. but that's too simplistic a way to look at the data, and it doesn't say much we can't glean from real life already!
