The Rebuild

Five years ago, 7 out of 28 remain.

If it was easy to sell Dier he would have been gone already

- Dier, Sanchez, Winks, Sissoko, Aurier, Davies have all been on the market from the beginning of the window.

I think Aurier and Sanchez could still leave, assuming other CB and RB moves from other teams cause a domino effect

I dont see Dier, Winks or Davies leaving this year

Funny and surprising how much dross there is in the squad from the era with the best side we’ve ever had.
It was a fantastic 12/13 players, with the likes of a promising Winks coming through as well. Incredible we didn’t win anything with that though, it’s way better than Leicester or Arsenal have had in the last 10 years and they’ve won a couple of fa cups and the league.

There was something in the The Economist a few months ago where they did a ranking of squads over the last few years, and based on whatever algorithm they developed, came up with % chances of teams winning a trophy each season. The conclusion was that over a period of about the previous 10 years, it was verging on impossible for Spurs not to win a trophy

And yet we managed it

sexy!

Thats it! So we should have won, roughly, 2 PL titles, 1 Europa, 2 FACs, and 2 league cups between 2006-20....

The closing comment is also interesting "That is good news for Spurs. If they sustain their 2016-20 level of skill, they have a 90% shot to win another trophy by 2026"
I don’t think it’s really saying that much is it? Basically if we are around the level we was under Poch for the most part, we will probably get to another final in the next five years. I’m no betting man but I’d happily put money on that….

You mean like we did last season

Is our midfield any good? Maybe Gil will be the change but I have been unimpressed with city and wolves where we could not play how we want in the midfield. 34% possession even against Emirates Marketing Project feels really low and we made wolves look good with 42% possession.

Dele to do the hard running? It works I guess but he is wasted there. How to make the likes of the rest into a proper game-controlling, attacking and defending unit? Feels like there is little synergy amongst them so far, with each doing their role fairly well, but not the desired impact as a group.

I hope Nuno has a vision to integrate new blood quickly. Hope Paratici supports him with personnel changes. Sarre and rumours of the Barca youth is promising.

Balance in midfield isn't right yet. Need someone that can pass and create badly.

The big problem was always imho, we tried to compete for every trophy with a relatively small squad as well as finishing in the top 4. Yes Leicester and Arsenal won trophies in that time but mainly because they put their eggs into that basket. Had we focused on one trophy and not competed for top 4 for example we would have got it.

It's interesting that no club outside of the traditional top 5 have managed to win a cup and finish top 4 in the same season.

If only trophies were won by data crunchers.

Well Wolves ran United fudging ragged today and City had 81% possession against the Scum (91% in 2nd half), so our midfield doesn't seem that bad.

That said, I think most of us (and probably Nuno) don't think PEH, Skipp, Dele is the answer.

We need an addition (not sure it will be this window) and we need Lo Celso ready and either Ndombele back in, or his replacement as an option (assuming he doesn't leave without an in).
