Interesting that the head of the UCI Pat McQuaid, has a lifetime ban from Olympic competition for racing in South Africa during apartheid. But he's allowed to hand out the Gold medals to likes of Bradley Wiggins and Victoria Pendleton.

It's amazing how good the USA is at swimming, 14 golds already and likely more to come. Take away those medals and they have less golds than us, in comparison to China who are much better all rounders and have golds in 9 sports.
Gotta wonder where they get all these amazing swimmers from, and why other nations are so much less competitive. Would love to see more young GB swimmers coming through

They've got less heavy water in the US.
Basketball, swimming, gymnastics and some athletics is usually where the US do best. It's the sports they have a culture for. Probably doesn't help that they don't show any of the other stuff on tv.
Forgot tennis, maybe something else?

At Primary school we used to go swimming quite a bit. Ultimately though in Secondary school all the focus was on Rugby and a bit of Football and at times a bit of Athletics. At no point did we go swimming etc.
There is a great deal of opportunity for swimming success as there are so many events and disciplines and forms. It is also fairly rich akin to Tennis etc.

The issue with Watkins is she has massive teeth which could get in the way
