The Official Olympic Thread

This is going to be 11 amazing days, full of emotion, inspiration, this paralympics is going to be fantastic, they are all true heroes

I cant wait, just annoyed already at the amount of ad breaks that C4 have had already

The coverage is already starting to sound a bit patronising.

"Look at him, he's having a great time!"

My pal made me crack up, he said they did a hologram of Freddie Mercury for the proper one, surely they couldve done a hologram Joey Deacon for the paralympics

And that's what they said about the Olympians, isn't it? Describing the athletes obvious excitement about the tournament. I guess the comment depends on the context and how it was said but too much can be otherwise read in to innocent comments.

Right I'm notorious for getting lyrics wrong but are they seriously shouting "Spasticus, Spasticus, Spasticus Artisticus!"

Or it might just be the world's largest condescending applause festival.

Gold medal for Team GB, Jon Fox broke the WR this morning, just outside it in the final this evening...

2 golds, 3 silvers, 2 bronzes so far, 2nd behind China who have 11 medals in total

Dont be such a prick

Seriously though, don't you find the whole "Aren't they so brave/courageous/special/etc?" a little condescending?

I'm pretty sure most people who'd qualify to enter want to be treated equally to everyone else. In which case they're competing in a slightly less interesting version of the only very mildly entertaining Olympics. I find the whole "oh, I'm so proud of that little wheelchair one" epidemic nauseating.
