The Official 2022/23 Premier League Thread

United remind me of Nokia - they've gone from a position of such strength and holding a lot of competitive advantages to being overtaken by rivals due to a stubborn refusal to evolve and potentially some arrogance in thinking they were too big to fail.

United played it perfectly from when the Prem era kicked off, top 4 became a closed shop and in most cases the CL money kept the distance between the chasing pack. And if they got close they could just unsettle and take the best players from 5th and below if they threatened to upset the cartel.

City's doping and the Poch era suddenly meant the Sky 4 just couldn't turn up and get 4th in a bad year, which was the late Wenger modus operandi that allowed goons to finance their stadium.

In Neville's case, it's nice to hear his admiration for our strategy, he still seems to be doubling down on Conte's unsuitability though and I think this is part of the issue throughout the club and for a considerable amount of their fanbase - They want a new Fergie type who will transform the team on the pitch, blood youngsters whilst continually refreshing the team and play attractive football. I believe Neville thinks this can be done by Poch but no one is getting 3 years to turn around the rot. They've even come 2nd twice during the last 5 fallow years but failed go build on it.

Feels like a difficult job for any manager but it seems a particularly toxic dressing room that struggle to accept the level of strategy and organisation that is embedded in the rest of the top 6. Maybe Chelsea are the exception, but their boom and bust approach is their embedded strategy and it works as the managers they bring in have a short term impact through their rep even if it can't be sustained.

It was much easier for conte. Paratici was here who he knew and had already begun the rebuild. Conte has a huge reputation that the players respected and knew that his word was law. No going over his head or behind his back, do what he says or you're gone. Also less disgruntled fans, yes a lot were unhappy but not to the level of utd fans. Conte also knew the prem and what it takes to win here.
To be fair other than Romero it seems like Conte has been a factor in the quality / approach to our singings, unless Nuno demanded Gollini, Gil and Emerson. Sarr tbc of course.

Forest 1-0 West Ham. Brilliant! West ham score a minute before half time, only for it to be overturned by VAR, and then Forest immediately go up the other end and score a very scrappy goal!

It feels right Forest back in the Prem. Always quite liked them, probably because of Steve Hodge.
1. Anyone know why they have no shirt sponsor?
2. Huge gap between the bench and the pitch, pretty sure it wasn't that big when Cloughie punched that fan.
3. Their fans are awesome, great atmosphere!
