I have a bad feeling about this. Everything seems to be going in our favor in terms of teams below us. I can see us bottling this game.

Interesting - I had no idea this was how it originated, too young too remember that. To be fair - surely a tackle from behind that takes the opponent before the ball would've been a foul anyway? Why stipulate the "from behind" bit? Surely a rule simply stating that "if you touch the man before the ball then it's a foul" would suffice, since all tackles from behind would fall under this umbrella.

Sure, it was always a foul, but the rule change made it a straight yellow card. Before that, players (often big strapping Italian defenders!) would do it 5 times in 10 minutes with no punishment other than conceding frees. For negative teams with good defences - like the Italians - giving away free kicks was preferable to allowing the attack to develop from open play. The situation needed a tougher punishment, hence the rule change to a yellow card.

Torres has just been booked for one of the "tackled from behind" challenges that should not be a yellow because he could have got the ball. It should have been a simple free, but not a yellow as a "tackle from behind".

Am really stating to like number 10 at everton...a beast waiting to be unleashed tbh
