The Match of the Day Thread

Kane v Emirates Marketing Project.jpg Kane v Emirates Marketing Project 2.jpg It's not just the feet that count, you know.

The rules are laws. He is in an offside position but is not penalised unless or until he involves himself in play whie taking advantage .... by which time he might even be in an on-side position.

The offside was not yards, just the width of Harry's shoulders as he was the wrong side of the line and bolt upright.

1st shot the ball has just been kicked, second is fractionally later. The BBC drew a dirty great white line, chose a later frame where he was on the move, and mis-judged the distance.

BBC ...... gosh !

PS ... took a while to load this properly and others have covered some of this. Earlier posts included some from real numpties. Further apologies to the Ancient Brotherhood of Numpties for any offence.

Haven't watched their take yet. Did they mention DeBruyne's offside, that DeMichelis should've been sent off for a second yellow card and that the Walker offside was in another passage of play to that from which Dier scored (i.e. The one before - Emirates Marketing Project had two chances to clear)...pathetic if they didn't discuss those things.

They covered those things apart from the passages of play with Dier's goal

So many excuses for city it was unreal, squad not big enough to cope with injuries (WTF), poor decisions by officials blah blah blah. Only one not trotted out was that it was a red moon not a blue one.
And why wasn't that the first and major game!

but 9.9 times out of 10 Walker would have immediately been flagged offside...it would never have got to another passage of play. That was the most shocking offside call got wrong ive seen in a long time. happy of course though:)

So do we make it to top of the order today?

A Kane hat-trick could be something for the pundits to fawn about, but Klopp's first game in front of the Kop and the ultimate Manc-challenge will be hard to resist. If 4-1 over City is not enough, why should 5-1 at Bournemouth be of note?

Surely the Geordie Derby will be up first
Then wanc - quick version as nothing happened
Bin dippers
Quick overview of our game - bit like the old days when they just showed the goals

We're actually second, hah.

Pantilimon is incapable of holding onto the ball, but managed to keep Sunderland in the game today.

Poor chap commentating on the Dippers' game, sounded so disappointed when SCBC got the equalizer, especially after he'd pulled it over Klopp when Liverpool scored.

Was that an ironic stat that MOTD put on the Spurs game? "Just the second premier league hat trick Harry Kane has scored". He's only played a season Ffs!

On 2nd tonight, why?

The commentary said as the game finished "Spurs poor run at Arsenal continues" seriously? That was the take home from that game, Spurs failing again?!?

Jenas is a good pundit though.

Motivation up and still under the radar. Really thought we would have been getting a lot more attention after this game, but it actually seems the gooners are getting all the praise.

Nothing surprises me with the media these days, fudge them all, let's just carrying on doing things how we are and let them talk about others and not us

Match of the Day tells fans ‘be careful what you wish for’

Supporters who complain about their team never being first on Match of the Day should be careful what they wish for, according to the BBC’s head of football.

Chelsea have appeared in the top slot on the main Saturday night programme five times this season, two more than the next nearest team, West Ham, but all Chelsea’s top billings have been defeats as the champions have endured a start to forget.

Everton, Stoke City, Tottenham and West Bromwich Albion share the dubious honour of being on last the most times – three each.

Mark Cole, the BBC’s head of football, is delighted by the interest supporters take in the Match of the Day running order but pointed out sometimes it may be a good thing to be nowhere near the start of the show, especially as the battle to avoid relegation reaches its climax.

Asked if producers were conscious of a need to even things out across the season, Cole said: “Not at all. Every week is done on its merits. I have said it before a couple of times – I think when fans of Hull weren’t particularly happy that they never led the programme, for example – that actually, for those clubs that are in the relegation mix, it is a very good thing if you don’t lead because when the relegation picture gets interesting, those sorts of games start to go at the top and. I think if you don’t ever lead Match of the Day, you are safe in the Premier League and there are hundreds of millions [of pounds in television income] coming your way next year. So ‘be careful what you wish for’ might be a rule for some fans.”

Cole explained how the decision over the running order was reached. “The editor is the key person. On a Thursday probably they will put a draft running order into our script system, so they will have what they think will be the running order both in terms of times of each edit and also the order,” he said.

“All that can completely change with the results but it gives you a bit of an idea because there is an element of the intrigue around a game, so you can put together your plans of how you think it will look.

“But then Tottenham-Liverpool, which was Jürgen Klopp’s first game, that was top of the running order on a Thursday and Friday, but was a 0-0 game; there was much better fare around the rest of the programme and it ended up being last on the show.

“So essentially, you will have a plan in place but then once the games happen you will move things around. You have the early game and might move that around the order, then after 3pm, you will know 90% of the games so you can put that there, and then you are just waiting for the final things within the 5.30pm game.

“That is where you have to be a little bit nimble on your feet because there are eight different edit suites and there are producers in those cutting matches to a certain duration, and if you get a storming last game, then suddenly you are ringing around all those suites and saying: ‘Right, we don’t want eight minutes, you are going to have to drop that down to seven so we can give the late game some extra time.’ So all those decisions are made on the day.”

Would be good to see Chelsea head the running order a few more times.

Maybe if they cut all the dumb angle replays, video effects and dire music they wouldn't have to rush around.
Oh and do we really have to told THREE TIMES during each show what's coming up, and in case you are five we have a natty graphic to help you understand and keep your attention.
I tune in to watch FOOTBALL, not a football themed Take Hart, (showing my age there). Really annoys me. Just n case no one noticed.

That's understandable for this season but even in past seasons they've shown United winning by a goal or two over entertaining games that we've had. He says it's good to avoid being on it when the relegation battle reaches it's climax but the only time a team in a relegation battle make the first game is when they're playing one of the top 4.

Still though, I am happy with the lack of attention we've been getting. It set us up well last time we made top four. Although now we've had five in the England squad that attention might increase.
