The London Thread.

the comedy was cancelled as only about 5 of us showed up to watch it, really surprising as the lineup looked decent. bar-hopped around shoreditch instead, went into be at one and had an irish disco biscuit, popped into the commercial tavern and then the strongroom bar. Dirty dingdongs because because it seemed to be open later than most places and played 'spot the murderer'

There's something quite cute about this girl but I think she keeps mentioning a boyfriend so it was just drinks as friends.

yeah im going for breakfast actually on Sunday as a warm up for the last game of the season pub crawl \o/

Taking a girl out next week in Hoxton/Shoreditch/Old Street kind of area. Need some quick, reasonably priced food to start us off.. any suggestions? I have a feeling she may be vegetarian so somewhere that has a few veggie options would be good.

Some good Vietnamese places on Shoreditch high st on way up to where it turns into Kingsland Rd. A little strip of them, worth checking out.

Spent lastnight with my girfriend in The Andaz Hotel at Liverpool St, lovely lovely hotel, got a really good bargain on the room on booking.com

We had dinner at Oblix in The Shard, wow what a place that is, the food, service was fantastic, I had a lovely beef tenderloin and the mrs had duck, so so good

Best mashed potato I've ever tasted in my life !!! haha

what was the pudding? I like pudding so I am asking out of interest I have been past the Shard but not in it yet is it nice? We have started doing the theatre deals where you stay up in town for the night as I get fed up with a train journey where I do not get home till 1.30 am, takes something off the night. Also good to be able to eat after the theatre rather then rushing back for the last train.

I had some Bartlett cheese, very nice soft cheese indeed, the meal with drinks came to £245, pricey but well worth it for a one off

Glad you enjoyed it Marky, I liked the venue but I've been disappointed that each time I've been they have just the one veggie option. We even called ahead once and were assured the chef would do something different for us but wasn't the case when we turned up. The manager essentially said if the chef could be arsed to do something different, he would. So I got the usual risotto with a few extra bits of veg on top. Not great for a what considers itself a landmark restaurant. Bloody expensive as well but we get a lot of overseas friends visiting and many want to visit The Shard.

Risotto is really nice though, as is the cheese board!

There was a documentary last night about the Shard, mainly the first few weeks of it opening,it showed the restaurant and bar and the food you can have.........also some of the rooms where you can see someone having a bath next door.

Manager said it wants to be in the top 5 hotels in the world in the next year or so.

I am living in a hotel near Covent Garden / Holborn tube a few nights a week at the moment, recommendations for places to eat and drink nearby please?

Dishoom near covent gardne for indian - not your bog standard curry and they are open for a breakfast menu as well.

Meat Market for burgers.

Thanks will try and check some of these out, Dishoom looks excellent.

Didn't arrive and check into my hotel until gone 10pm when I was down on Wednesday so went to Five Guys for a burger, so good compared to anything like that up here in the north.
