The Goon Thread

Okay suppose a 19 year old player has some one lay an accusation on them. It took around 4 years for the Party allegations to become a formal charge. It may not have become a formal charge. The police could have found some new evidence that completely exonerates the individual. They’d be 23 having not played any football in that time. Their career would effectively be over. No issue at all for you?

If the club acted without prejudice and were consistent, no I wouldn't have an issue, as I wouldn't with charges linked to other crimes, not just rape.

There is zero level of perfect scenario here because the alternative is someone who is guilty having played for 4 years, maybe lifting a trophy, have their brand painted all over yours only to find they were a prolific rapist...........That makes me more uncomfortable than the idea of being a risk adverse organisation.

BUT in Parteys case that model would have only seen him 'stood down' this week.

You’re right that it would have. But it’s also had the affect of reframing the discussion from something like Spur Me Up is talking about — potentially ruining a player’s career instead of following ‘innocent until guilty’ — to the reputational damage of harbouring an accused rapist.

It’s a pretty brick way to frame the conversation (taking even more focus away from victims of sexual assault) but sometimes the ends does justify the means imo.

Isn’t there a film about stopping pre-crime where thoughts are policed? You’re suggesting we no longer have innocence until proven guilty.

There is an alternative and that is simply that such vital cases in the public eye are felt with quickly as many other serious cases are.

I think people like to boil it down to overly simplistic arguments, or lie about whats being said haha.

There are so many potential issues at play and wider safe guarding impacts to consider. Its not a case of "if you stick them on leave you are saying they are guilty"..........
