Yes iirc, the issue with what happened in Spain is that at the point it (the oral r ape) happened, it was not a crime. Fast forward a month or so and the law was changed (obviously was in the process of changing already, nothing to do with that incident).

That thread, if it's the one I remember (I am not visiting it again) was awful because you could see the woman unravelling online trying to deal with all the pressure and frustration she was feeling, and all the abuse she was getting.

Constant abuse and disbelief, yes. Not surprising, that's the standard reaction to these cases - even more so when a sporting "hero" is the subject of them.

The only law that changed was the UK's ability to prosecute crimes commited by residents in Spain. So because both were UK citizens, and the crime was reported in the UK, the Spanish police had no jurisdiction (a temporary position). 10 days after the event, CPS was given jurisdiction to prosecute overseas events with UK residents.

This happened in the middle of the changes.

Can the victim just not report the crime in Spain?
