Most Brits it seems, common occurrence here. Comfort in seeing known beers on tap and British food I guess, no sense of adventure or wanting to embrace the local culture.

To be fair all nationalities do this.

Go to china town in London and it is full of Chinese tourists.

If I am away and want to watch football I will go to a bar which has tv in it. Often the expats bars are best for this. If I just want a night out I would not go near one of these places.

Having been born and raised in Camden from Irish ancestry I can confidently state that "Irish bars/pubs" are as authentically Irish as most Irish international footballer!

While I agree that they definitely aren't 'typical' like you said, I have yet to find a single city, regardless of how large or small, regardless of how far flung, that doesn't have an 'Irish pub' somewhere. I can imagine Pyongyang doesn't have one...?

My son had to go to India for his work and the people he was working with took him out every night for dinner and it was always european/american restaurants despite him hinting he liked indian food.
