The Goon Thread

In Arsenals defence, they have had some pretty bad injuries this season. Wheelchair, Sagna, Gibbs, Vermaelen, Song, all of whom are genuine first XI players for them, have missed a lot of games. Sure we've had injuries like Sandro, Gallas, Huddlestone, Defoe but they aren't part of our first XI

We've won games this season without King, VDV, Modric, Parker and Bale. We've also had injuries to Kaboul, Huddlestone, Defoe, Gallas, Dawson, Lennon and BAE.

While some of those are not essentially first teamers, they are important subs, who we have had to deal without.

To be fair to the gooners, we have coped, and they havent.

Of which, only Sagna would probably get in our 1st XI.

Bunch of cry babies & I can't wait to turn them over again in a couple of weeks

Sagna above Walker? Really?

RVP is the only goon who would get in our team and he would have to up his game.

Van Persie and Vermaelen would get into our team IMO even though Kaboul has been mustard this season. Walker is going to be a great player, but I'd give the edge to Sagna right now purely because he's a better defender at this moment in time.

I think i'd take chamberlain as a sub for Lennon/Bale. Might even top Lennon in the future, would have to see how he turns out.

Didn't they say the same about Walcott, being at Arsenal will ruin the boy's career the same way it did to Theo.

Ha my post got on their website, apparently we lack class!

Mike you're a star over on that glory glory forum

Spurs are playing the best footy in the league at the mo. have done for quite sometime too. They've moved up a level and I'd imagine over the next few years we'll finish above them some years and they'll finish above us others. The days of always finishing above them for a couple of decades has gone.

They stil lack class tough and they will always be the case.

There were a couple of Arsenal fans down the pub whilst I was watching the Liverpool game. They gave the classic line from this season.
"We've qualified for the Champions league for the last 15 seasons in a row"
I simply replied yet we have still won more European trophies than you.

They kept banging on about it, the invincibles, etc, etc.
I said it's funny how Spurs fans were the ones accused of clinging on to the past. We won the double in 61, remember Gazza's free kick from 91?
"Yeah that was ages ago though" they laughed.
Maybe but it's still the past whether its 50 years or 5 years ago, I'd be more worried about the present which you can't deny Spurs are in a lot better shape than Arsenal. The league table doesn't lie.

Hmm. At the moment, I can't bring myself to laugh at them. For two reasons, really. Firstly, they might finish above us yet (we are Spurs, after all) so counting our chickens might not be the best idea. Secondly, once we get our new stadium up and running, we might have to deal with much of the brick they're dealing with, unless we grab ourselves that massive sponsorship deal Levy's been looking for, which seems a tad unlikely in the current economic circumstances. So overall....

....fudge it, we're finishing above them.

With everybody fit and in form, Vermaelen would struggle to just walk in ahead of one of King, Gallas, Kaboul and Dawson

Look, Daws is magnificent on his day, a real guts-and-glory defender, but Vermaelen shades it, both pace and technique-wise. Gallas won't be around for very long, unlike Vermaelen, so I'd imagine he gets the nod over him as well. So Vermaelen, Kaboul and King would compete for a starting spot. I'd imagine the team would look something like this;

Friedel

Sagna Vermaelen King Benny

Lennon Modric Parker Bale

VdV

Van Persie

with a subs bench of Chesney, Walker, Kaboul, Sandro, Wheelchair(clam though he is), Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ade.

Not a bad side, that. And that's without players like Koscielny and Song, who have done well for them this season.

Sorry I dont do hybrid Scum line ups.

But regarding Vermaelen, I was talking skill wise. If you want to talk about Gallas getting on etc, then we could just as well say that any decent CB under 27 would start for us

But the point here is that Vermaelen is more valuable to the team, no? Gallas' value is diminshing, whereas Vermaelen's can only increase.

As for your reluctance to do hybrid line-ups, I completely understand. My only excuse is that having a brother who(despite my most vehement efforts to the contrary) supports Arsenal has left me a bit more able to stomach them than most Spurs supporters I know.

Some of you putting Vermaelen in the hybrid team over Kaboul?#-o no chance Kaboul has been streets better this season

:D

Fair enough.

'They' did say it about Walcott, but i was not part of them saying that. This is me saying he looks like he could be a quality player, however with Wenger's history of taking players with potential and destroying them his chances are less.
