Redknapp may have been instrumental in Modric settling into the EPL but not convinced he developed him as a player (most of that was seen before he came to us) and as for Bale, Harry didn't have a scoobies what to do with him.

Huddlestone ate the pie chartAh - but you never saw any of his Powerpoints! He did this exploding 3D pie chart on one of them that had Levy eating out of the palm of his hand.
Also interesting that despite AVB having such fantastic intelligence he couldn't take over Redknapp's squad and keep them in the top four.

Modric looked like a fish out of water when he first arrived. He was like a little boy lost in the centre of midfield. I can even remember Wenger quoting that he looked too lightweight for the PL during our poor start to the season. I don't think Redknapp 'turned him into' a World class player, but he certainly progressed and became a World class player during those 3 and 3/4 years that Harry managed us. "Shoving him out on the wing" did not hold Modric's progress, it allowed him to get used to the English game in an easier position and gain the confidence to become the player that he should become.Indeed, all this talk about " rent a quote" turning Modric and Bale into world class players is cobblers, Modric was a player when he came here ( captain of his country) and " rent a quote" held his progress back by shoving him out on the wing. And as others have already said he was prepared to sell Bale.
If i did not know better i would say its " rent a quote" trying to rewrite history again.
He wanted to loan him out to toughen him up.I though he was clear that he wanted to sell him to Forest, to raise funds to bring in Kenwyne Jones?
Imagine how things could have been if rentagob had managed AVB's points score and achieved what he should have done with the squad that was gifted to him.Imagine the tossfest if AVB's team played football as good as Harry's?

I find it laughable how those that don't like Redknapp are quite happy to credit AVB or Pochettino with the development of players who improved when they were manager, but for any player that improved under Redknapp (and there were a hell of a lot of them) it must've just been luck.

Or the crowd and press could've got on his back, the player's confidence could'be been shot and he could've failed in England pretty spectacularly.... That though is pure speculation - just like your 'if he had been played in his proper position sooner' one. The only facts are that Modric came to Spurs a talented young player and 4 years later left as a World class player moving to the World's biggest club.Rubbish, he was a top player when he came here and like a lot of players who move here from abroad took a while for him to get adjusted to the pace of the game. If " rent a quote' had played him in his proper position sooner then he would have shown his best form earlier.
To just pick up on the 'not as good as he should've done' comment. How well should Redknapp have done then? Before each of his 3 full seasons started most people and pundits seemed to think that we would finish 5th or 6th. Yet he took us to 4th, 5th, 4th so was on par with or better than expected in each season.i think you're in danger of rewriting history as much as you claim the other side has been with a couple of your posts this afternoon mate - ive always maintained that i thought Modric was class from the beginning, as good as he become? no, but then he was still developing. for me there were plenty of games early on where he showed his doggedness on the ball - in particular i remember a game against Bolton (who were then known for being rough and ready) where he excelled, holding off players twice his size - so i think it's a bit of a fallacy to say he was too lightweight when he first arrived and iirc that Wenger quote originates from him explaining why he never tried to sign him (despite having scouted him) not as a judgment on how he was playing for us at the time.
Redknapp done a good job, no question - not as good as he should have done, imv, and we never really looked better than the sum of our parts but he came in and balanced the squad, added some experience which allowed the quality players to play to their best and got us playing some great football

based on season starting expectations yes
had the same people been asked again mid season (on the latter 2) the expectation would have been higher
we threw away massive point advantages both seasons, once is forgivable, twice is incompetence
Poch is getting the team playing at least to the sum of their parts. If, GHod forbid, the form we showed towards the end of last season happens again in the one coming up should we sack Poch for incompetence then?
