That's why I suggested (not knocking the current time and effort being put into this) doing this by genre. We definitely shortlisted enough albums. Could have had a top 5 of rock, rap, dance and so on.

Then we could have a top 10. Winner of each genre would then be up against one another for definitive album of the decade.

And then we'd end up complaining about which genre an album ended up in instead
 
But leftfield vs prodigy and rage vs gnr would have been easier to compare musical styles, rather than judge contrasting albums.

In some songs nothing happens. No vocal, just a beat going on and on and then it ends. I really don't get it, do you have to be stoned to enjoy this?

Sounds like lift Muzak to me.

Hahahaha! And rage has huge variety? Lol! The tempo in the Leftism album goes from 88 to 137 bpm.

Better with no lyrics, WHICH IS QUITE COMMON IN CLUB/HOUSE MUSIC, than this crap endlessly repeating the same words over and over and over again. Check out this for variety!

It is of it's time, but Leftism was heralded as a genre busting album in that it had elements of house, dub, tribal, reggae and was not easy to pigeonhole into one scene. I still think it sounds very fresh today and full of innovative ideas but if you are not a fan of that type of music I guess the nuances are harder to pick out. It was a seminal album for a lot of people in that it was gateway for them into electronic music from more traditional music genres.

A lot of dance music is just as you describe, uber repetitive and formulaic. Copy and paste rubbish that has one purpose, and that is to help induce a state of chemical bliss on the dancefloor. I'm not really into that scene but have trodden that path in my youth. The music is boring if you are not in that 'mood'.

Anyway I'm not knocking your taste in music as each to their own but lift music it is not.

(Edit: Copy and paste I mean. Cut and paste would result in a very short track :p)

Give it a rest. I could very easily quote lyrics from the Rage album that quite clearly aren't repeating the same words over and over.

Indeed, music is just music and all that matters is if we/you like it. There are those who try and put it into boxes ( meaning of life and all that flimflam) but its just music at the end of the day.

Indeed. And getting banned from playing at the Brixton Academy again surely has to be worth some points alone!
Their sound system was so loud it caused parts of the roof to start falling down! :D

Really? Ha. I can believe it actually. I saw Leftfield many years ago and didn't really enjoy it. They had techno'd up all their tracks for the live set to the point they were almost unrecognisable from the originals. Very very loud too if I recall.
 
Yeah, their live performances often sound quite different from the albums, depending on what band they travel with. I Had the PA on a festival they played, and yes, they were loud. No damage to the PA though, unlike Mötorhead, that were so load I had to replace drivers in 15 out of 24 stacks of EAW KF-750's :mad:

I'm trying to think of the loudest gig I was at. I went to a load of metal gigs when I was young. Ozzy might have been the loudest of those. My ears were ringing for days after. Some poor fudger jumped off the balcony and bounced off the floor in that gig if I recall.

I think the loudest one may have been LCD sound system. My whole body was vibrating with every bass note. I could actually feel the sound waves like a gentle wind blowing against my hand. I thought I was about to have a heart attack. I went down the back and had a few beers.
