The Ale & Beer thread

Spoke to him and he says yeah thats all you need, he also added that the best kits are the 3kg kits (two 1.5kg tins). Hope that helps ya?
He says the only problem with buying online is delivery charges and the time it takes, but that may not be an issue for you (he's not the most patient of people). My dad goes to a shop in Dunmow just outside Stansted, but he searched online to find it... Says it's better going into a local store as you can usually get advice.
 
I stopped drinking lager when Holsten disappeared off the shirts! Has to be real ale.
Loads of great real ales around these days, a few have been mentioned, Batemans XXXB, Adnams Bitter, Woodfordes Wherry, Wychwood Hobgoblin, Fullers London Pride...

I prefer ruby and porter with a good malty flavour to golden hoppy beer. That's my general rule of thumb.

I did pick up a bad habit living in the States - there were a lot of good microbreweries around, but beer was still cold and a bit fizzy, so I still drink all bottled ale from the fridge.
 
I'm more in to the hoppy stuff myself, some of my best days have been at ale festivals. It's really the best way to get drunk, fudge the student mindset of an hour and a half predrinks with some vodka or other gonads, I want to spend the entire day in the sun getting steadily tanked on varying ales of which I can't tell any difference by the 5th pint. That's the way to do it.

A general question, is london pride well renowned or is it a bit like the fosters/carling of the lager world? I don't really mind as I fudging love the stuff to be honest but I'm interested to know...

Badger ales are quality also. Golden Glory. Unbelievable.

My dad gimmi some porter, he'd brewed recently, last night. First time i ever tried it and i must say i loved it! Felt nice and fuzzy after only 2 pints too!

I don't mind London Pride either, one of only 3 ales my local corner shop sells (Bishops Finger and Spitfire the other 2)
 
Porter, stout, IPA. All good, especially the ones where you manage a pint of something else while you wait. Love micro breweries.
 
It's really great today with the large range of beers available nearly everywhere. When I started there was mainly just light & brown ale, bitter, mild or Guinness and for that strange bloke in the cravat bottled larger!! I started on light & bitter as you got over a pint well worth the price 1s11p would get legless on 10 bob.

I haven't either, or any Badger ale for that matter. Bit of a shame really, not just because of the GG links.

Nice thread resurrection, when a post of yours from 2012 gets quoted, that's when you know you've been around a while....I dread to think of how many hours I've spent on this site and how many arguments I've waded into over the years!

Anyway Rorschach you mentioned about brewing your own so I was also going to give it a whirl too I bought some demijohns and other bits of kit years ago and they are still in the cabin in the wrappers.

Don’t have a clue - although I have watched a few YouTubers over the years.

The shame of it is not many of my friends drink anymore - so I’ll settle for my virtual friends here instead.

Well I don't have a clue either, but now I know what a demijohn is, and I want one.

I'm due a birthday present, so I dropped a hint yesterday about a homebrew kit, and the answer was not a chance. That's not the answer I was hoping for, but I'll order a kit online and play dumb. I'll almost certainly need a demijohn, too ;).

I have a cunning plan, though. My uncle was a brewer back in the day for a microbrewery. Dempsey's was their name, I think. I remember he used to pick my aunt up from our house when they were courting, she was living with us at the time, in this old style van with Dempsey's plastered down the side. A bit like this one.

I've no doubt there was plenty of courting going on in the back of that thing. Anyway, I digress. He's just retired and he has ants in his pants, so I started dropping little hints over the last year or so that he should get back into brewing again and set up his own microbrewery. He has plenty of money. And I think these seeds have found some fertile ground. He's been researching the cost of equipment, he told me, and has gone on a couple of brewery tours to see what has changed in the process, etc. Next time I see him I'll drop the idea that I could help him if he needed it. Inception.
 
More of a 'it's hot and I want a refreshing beverage' kind of beer, but last night I tried something different. Bierra Limocello
A kind of mix between beer and limocello spritz. It had the taste of beer with the refreshing limocello taste. I'm mot really into those kind of 'beers', but it was really nice when it was 35 degrees outside.
