Tennis thread

Ferrer >>>>>>> Del Potro end of discussion. A prime example of a slam not making a career. By your definition and any number of casual fans judgement Petr Korda had a better career than Murray or Johansson. Like candy from a baby but keep playing if you like.

Before he withdrew from Madrid (hip problem), Del Potro was 7-0 on clay

When he played at Garros in 2009, he reached the semi finals and gave Federer the fright of his life in a 5 set thriller.

Played ok against him this year too

Troll indeed :ross:

Gave a fright?

Have a look at his singles titles and finals - only 25% are on clay. Now compare that to Almagro (100% all on clay) or Ferrer's (62% on clay)

Clay is not his best surface, mate - he's a hard court's player, not a mindless basher

Spaceman, don't let this shock you but - Tennis DOES exist beyond the Grand Slam media over-saturated world of 4 events per year.

The Tour is further divided into 1000 events (number of ATP points the winner receives) - also known as Masters Series - ATP 1000 followed by ATP 500 and ATP 250. Beyond that you have Challengers and Futures for up-and-coming players (100th ranked and below or anyone else who wishes of course, etc.)

Have a look at the official ATP 2012 calendar - excluding Davies Cup event there are around 50 such tournaments!. To win any of these Premium ATP events (all the way down to 250s) is a great achievement in any pros career and is often, very, very tough. Any Top 100 player on his day can defeat a Top 10 seed - that happens fairly often in fact. Don't let this Grand Slam supremacist flimflam brainwash you much like CL football does this days, mate.

cheers.

i asked because i genuinely didnt know but some guys with chips on their shoulders get upset lol. i admit im not the biggest tennis fan and only really watch wimbledon

Not saying it is, but a fit Del Potro will destroy a 30 year old clogger

Nadal, Djokovic, Federer and Del Potro are better than Ferrer on clay.

Refer to the above stats. ;)

Federer is actually not that great on clay either - had to wait for a lucky break in Nadal pulling out few years ago during Roland Garros in order to complete his All 4 Grand Slam big daddy swoop. He's a technical / elegant player and struggles on clay in general against bashing ogres.

Ferrer is not a clogger by the way - crazy use of adjective! 29 ATP finals and titles combined and counting - fudging hell, pal - did he 'block' his way to all those. He's got a fantasic back-hand and moves really well on the base line

For a big clogger at the moment appears to be big Isner - classic smashing serve and volley basher

Ferrer has some of the most consistent ground strokes in the game. Murray just couldn't hit though him today and went for too much. He out Murrayed Murray.

I see the two semis are not only at the same time tomorrow but also starting around lunch time!

What kind of weird timing is that? Surely viewing figures would double if they followed one after the other. Gonna have to record now and I'm guessing our channel would choose the Djokovic - Federer game to screen

Dude, why do you enjoy filling every single tennis thread with anti-Murray supremacy?

Ferrer is not a clogger by the way, bloody hell

You're falsely insinuating World no. 6 Ferrer is some kind of a talentless clogger and Murray (World no. 4) should have never lost to him. By constantly attempting to belittle Ferrer you're taking further tinkle on Murray for losing to him - eventhough the Spaniard is ranked 2 (two) places below him and is far superior on clay surface than any other. Ferrer was ranked 5th by the way just few weeks prior and is Spain's second best tennis player.

Okay
