Tanguy Ndombele

It was confirmed by ally gold that it’s not an obligation
They wont buy him
He has flopped there compared to inferior players
Shows how hard work can override talent

Confirmed by a blogger - I'm glad that's cleared up :)

I'm pretty sure some more serious outlets mentioned the obligation back when the loan was first agreed.

bearing in mind Jose said that after taking over as his manager, is it not more likely that he was doing it to get a reaction from the player?

he can be accused of many things, but he was always pragmatic

Yeah this is the scene that stuck with me most from the Documentary.
Jose was clearly testing the player, to see if he had some fight etc.... and Sanchez reaction was to smile and look nervous like a little kid.

Imagine being a pro & your manager says you are weak and you just go along with it. Makes me angry even now.

Personally I'd cut players some slack for how they react with TV cameras around in those sorts of situations

Not sure Conte is spoken about like that? Jose is marmite you either love him or hate him. I am more in the former camp than latter, but his powers have been on the wane for sometime now.

I'd say many have been highly critical of Conte especially since he tore in to the club, which makes sense. It's only one example but Bedford suggested he was still on Chelsea's payroll going by how he bombed it at our club.

They're both pricks but in an admirable way, Jose lost a lot of respect for me in the eye gouging incident but he has done a solid job at Roma, winning the ECL trophy and potentially getting them in to the CL. Many on here won't like that he has won a trophy at every single club he has worked at apart from ours, so self preservation means it's best to label him a dinosaur/ pantomime villain.

It's only speculation on my part but after Jose and Conte's spats I do wonder if Conte wanted to be able to one up him and take us to the next level, however we broke him in the end like we usually do to the rest of them...

It's a whole different debate and easy in hindsight but because of the board / operating method of the club these type of managers aren't really our way to progress.

@Gutter Boy I thought I'd read something similar, however I'm always cynical until it's made official although I do hope it is the case. Tired of players doing well at a club and then the cheeky feckers just asking to loan them again the next season, looking at you Villarreal...

27 league apps in a title winning team and getting picked to start in a CL quarter final is flopping? 37 appearances so far in all competitions.

It does seem like you sometimes make your mind up in the face of evidence that suggests the absolute opposite.

He was only picked as Anguissa was suspended and the majority of appearances have been as sub I'd imagine. There is a very gifted player there, just not the effort.
Speaking of Anguissa, saw him at Fulham and would not mind us getting him if we can.

He won't be back here in any active capacity. The club want no more yo do with him from what I witnessed there, wasn't just a manager thing although Conte worked hard with the club to make sure he was gone, seen as a distraction around the squad.

But only 10 of those 37 appearances are starts...

Fair point but he's still involved enough to be regularly brought on. I was lazy and just did a quick wiki check which doesn't have starts compared to appearances. Perhaps minutes played would be a better indicator but I don't know where to find that stat. If he's regularly coming on for the last half an hour it's still a massive contribution to a title winning side but less so if we're talking him coming on as a time wasting measure in injury time.

You do realise, apart from last night, he hadn’t started a game for 14 games? The majority of his appearances are from the bench and little 10 minute cameo’s.

Yup. He's not set the world alight but as I said above, minutes played would be the most accurate indicator, which I have acknowledged would be more of an accurate reflection than apps.

I'm sure when he gets his Serie A medal he'll be devestated that some nomarks on the internet consider him a flop for Napoli though...

Anyways we should be bigging up his contribution to increase the chances of him getting sold!

The fact he is making appearances (even sub appearances) despite only being on loan would tend to indicate that they hold him in at least reasonable regard at Napoli. If he wasn’t training well, trying hard and playing as per the manager instructions then he wouldn’t be getting any game time or even on the bench.

He's averaged just under 25 mins per appearance in the league - that's more than a bit part.

6 starts in serie A this season, 3 starts in the CL. Seems that most of the starts were earlier in the season around the time of the CL groups stages.

They bring him on almost every game but until last night, the last time which he played 45 mins of football was November 8th

Very weird usage of a player. Easy to fit a false narrative to some bare stats but you could suggest that they used him earlier in the season when the squad was stretched and now they only use him late on to help keep the ball and kill the game?

Either way, despite his incredible skill, he's previously shown he doesn't have the work-rate, fitness or attitude to succeed in the PL and its not obvious from the above that his season in Italy has done anything to suggest that might have changed

Napoli play almost the same team week in week out- so Spalleti’s pragmatism sounds much like Conte’s in that respect. But again, I keep reading that Tanguy isn’t fit enough. What a waste of talent, just cut his contract already. Lo celso too - these were supposed to be the midfield creators we desperately are trying to fill. Skipp and Pape are dynamos, and they’ll get better but we need a Modric or Gazza in the middle alongside the grafters and the blockers in front of the backline. We are missing Bentancur massively.

He’s still getting in the squad. We have had multiple players who are excluded from squads. So while it might not fit a narrative, he’s still involved.

there's possibly a financial reason too - might be if he plays a certain amount we are owed more money. Lots of stupid stuff like that happens all the time - look at Griezmann at Atletico Madrid.

More likely he's a lazy poop, but the above might figure too.
