Andre: "We had some good moments. Overall, I think a good first show from the team. We had some good chances. We're trying to build up physically, some good points to take and we won't stop working hard. We have to congratulate Swindon, they played very well including our players on loan."

Hugo: "It was a good game, its important to have time to prepare for next season and have minutes on the pitch. It's important to work hard in training but to play a game against a tough team is good for us to be ready for next season."
 
ANDY Williams was delighted to be back on the scoresheet against Tottenham Hotspur.

Speaking to the media after the game, the striker believes the White Hart Lane side provided stern opposition on a sweltering evening at SN1.

“It was a good test,” he said. “We showed we improved a lot on a good surface. Up front on my own it was a tough job to do but we kept the ball quite well and made the odd chance here and there. I think we held our own quite well.”

“We won the ball back quite cheaply in midfield, it came through and I got my shot away but it deflected past Brad Friedel and it was good to see it hit the back of the net.

“I had a decent chance in the first half and we had a few good chances. There were a lot of positives to take from tonight.”

Finally, Williams reflected on sharing a pitch with the likes of Gareth Bale.

”When you see him take a touch inside and smash it into the corner you start to get worried but we responded pretty well,” he grinned. “They mixed it up in both halves so it was a test for us both halves. There are so many positives to take out of tonight.”

Hopefully this os a tounge-in-cheek comment, but if you really feel that way.....
Results in preseason bare no meaning on how we will go into the news season. Match fitness, shape and understanding are far more important. Fringe players can show their worth, or not. Fair enough it's only Swindon, but I've seen us play worse with a stronger selection against weaker opposition preseason. Try not to read to much into the result, and look at player performance.

That's my opinion of friendlies anyway.
 
Another great goal by Bale. But hope he will try to score more simple goals next season. Funny, Lloris looks very nervous during the interview. Wonder if he is nervous due to his bad English or scared they might ask him complicated questions.:lol:
 
Some thoughts from Swindon fans:

Foderingham made a few decent saves during a couple of goalmouth scrambles in the first 15 minutes where the back four seemed a little disorganised, after their goal though we seemed to settle down and game some composure..

The midfield was full of running, it was good to see L Thompson, Luongo & Smith constantly pressing to try and win the ball back and then making runs off the ball when we had it.

Pritchard was probably our best performer, he looked a tricky little player and reminded me of Ritchie slightly coming in from the flank, had a good free-kick on him too.

In all, it was a pretty good performance for a pre-season run out, the players looked to be full of running and effort with some flashes of quality. Think we could do with a center midfielder to shore things up amongst the young lads, but it is quite difficult to judge how good/bad the squad actually is at the minute, personally I think the squad need some proper direction and organisation, if they get that then we should be OK.

Quite enjoyed that, and yes pre-season means nothing but it wasn't a bad performance from us considering.

Luongo looked good. Pritchard looks skillful with the slight criticism that he did a bit much at times. Ward and hall looked OK, not going to judge Byrne because he was against Bale. Williams worked hard.

Interesting about Byrne I thought he had a brilliant game, easily the best he had for us. Jumped in a couple of time against Bale but with the pace and power he is up against standing off isn't always the best way to go.

Liked the look of the centre back pairing as well, the new guy Hall looks a footballer compared to Flint and eventually settled in well. Got to say that Byrne is definitely not a left back no matter what people might think. His natural tendency is to play the ball with his right foot if at all possible and I cannot see him replacing Nathan Thompson at right full back on tonight's performance.

Nothing wrong at all with a right footed left back. Byrne for me is much more of a threat than mceverley, obviously for some games where we need to keep it solid he wouldn't be favourable but thought we had some cracking tackles against one of the best players in the world
