Summer 2018 transfer thread

Burnley Express reporting that Spurs have joined the race to sign Jay Rodriguez from West Brom:D
I guess the spot of Kane's backup is not the most enticing one. I wouldn't mind Rodriguez actually. I had written him off pretty much but he had a few decent games last season. He would be no worse than Llorente and maybe better.

Thing is, as we all know, football is a funny old game and being number two striker at a club facing up to 70 games in the space of nine months is hardly a bad idea. Kane gets injured most seasons and will need a rest before we even hit Xmas this year after his summer's exertions. There's league cup, FA Cup, necessary rotation in the league, Champions League etc etc. Now way would a decent back up striker be sat on the bench getting splinters. Who knows Kane might even be able to link up well with a young pacy striker who can finish. Add to all this Poch's reputation for giving young players a chance and I don't buy into this whole being in the shadow of Kane is a career mistake.

The question is, can we get a back up striker who we play better with than when Son and Lamela covered the role last season? An out and out striker would get less game time than players who can cover multiple positions. Some of our strongest form last season was when Kane was injured and the other forwards stepped up.

Inclined to agree, but we're a team competing in the champions league, premier league etc - it seems crazy that we wouldn't be able to accommodate a couple of out and out strikers. I love Son and Lamela but neither of them are strikers. In fact Lamela doesn't even half a right foot and I don't think either of them have ever scored a header.

I'm more interested in how the team functions than what position a player has listed against their name on the website. We played well without Kane last season, so the bar is set high and an out and out striker would have less opportunities to establish themselves and stay in form. We are hardly alone in being a top club that sometimes plays with a false 9.

Intriguingly, Moura was deployed there on the US tour a couple of times for a spell, most pointedly the second=half at the Rose Bowl...

That was mainly alongside/off Llorente wasn't it? Another interesting option.

Indeed. He did get some time as the false 9 against Barca, not a huge amount but 15 mins or so, and it appeared to me he revolved into that position a couple of other times during the pre-season. I doubt it will be a mainstay tactic BUT could be a great adjustment if we are in need of change fast during a match.

Poch wants the front four rotating positions, so if nothing else, it is a sign that he is bedded in.

That would be the right move for them.
I’m never surprised by Chelsea and their ability to spend.
Roman seems a little detached these days, probably wishful thinking!

Something to do with Novichok?

Also to confirm we still havent signed anyone.

Willian all over again

EVERTON MEDICAL FOR BERNARD

Chelsea have lodged a late bid to sign Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Bernard, according to Sky sources, but the Brazilian is on his way to Everton and is expected on Merseyside for a medical in the next 48-hours.

Bernard’s move is subject to that medical and a work permit being granted.

Sky Sports News understands that AC Milan were convinced Bernard was on his way to the San Siro, and another source tells us Atletico Madrid also pushed hard to sign him, while West Ham were also interested

Yes we haven’t signed anybody but I would not swap for City’s or Chelsea’s money.

Would having the money have to mean we became like them? Could it not just mean that at the start of the summer we could buy the players Poch wanted without the apparent need to sell first?
