What: Newcaastle United vs Spurs, League Cup match, last 16
When: Wednesday 29th October 2025, 8.00pm K.O
Where: St James Park, Saudi Sportswashing Machine

Well, cup game and away on a cold Wednesday night. Against the holders.
I remember an autumn midweek evening in the latter days of Juande Ramos going up there and winning in this same competition with at least one Pavlyuchenko headed goal. We were the holders then though...

We haven't got a great recent record against Eddie Howe, in fact i think they've regularly slapped us home and away. Our last win against them of any sort was probably one of Ange's most balanced and complete performances. Since then...constant losses.
Well, at least Isak isn't there to torment us any more. They still have a lot of weapons who can hurt us though. I'm especially scared of Gordon and Barnes. Plus their spoiling/physical tactics in midfield. I do think this will be a game where we'd be happy for having the 'boring' sitting duo of Paulinha and Bentancur. They can give is physcially as well. Though i'd also be tempted to start Gray in place of Bentancur, for extra youth and vim, we'll likely need to start with more experience.

Will be a tough, TOUGH game and one if we navigate and get through to the next round will set us up very nicely confidence-wise for the three consecutive home games we have before the international break.

I'd go for the following starting line-up:
Kinsky
Porro Danso Van Der Ven Spence
Bentancur Paulinha
Kudus Sarr Odobert
Muani

I'm going to go for a 2-1 win. First goal for Muani and A late winner from Johnson off the bench on the break. Barnes for them.

COYS

3rd tough away game on the bouch, this will test our character and physicality. Hope we get a decent referee as we know there are a few players in their line up who will do anything to win and be driven on by their fans.
Not sure I would leave out Vicario.

I cant see this going well but yoi never know.. My only hope is that this will finally be the game that things start to click, but in reality I dont think we will be really starting to gel for a while yet.

Any chance that Destiny or Romero will be back?

Part of me would like Palhinha to play against Joelinton/Bruno but seeing as our young trio of Sarr, Gray and Bergvall were all benched yesterday, maybe we'll see them start.
Also, Joao really should be given a bit of a break.

Tough one. Getting somewhat concerned about the workload for some of our players. VdV, Porro, Palhinha, Bentancur and Kudus. But not many of those we can realistically rotate out now with the injuries (defenders) and our reliance on Kudus in attack.

Will be really interesting to see what Frank goes with for this game.

Good point, especially as Vicariois in great form. However, unless Kinksy is looking utter tripe in training, it would eb good to give him some gametime and have him at least sharp enough to deputise if (GHod forbid) Vicario gets an injury. Kinksy made his debut against Saudi Sportswashing Machine and played very well IIRC, didn't he?

This is also a good point. That young trio certainly have energy but do lack experience in that kind of cauldron all together. Will be fascinating to see what TF decides in the end.

3rd away trip in a row and I'm thinking the lowest priority. If it was later in the tournament I'd give it more focus.

Kinsky
Porro Danso Davies Spence
Gray Bentancur
Johnson Sarr Oderbet/Tel
Muani

Or I might go with an inverted triangle of
Bentancur
Sarr Bergvall

I wonder what priority the Geordies will be giving this game?

They are the holders, they'll be taking it as seriously as anyone else i'd have thought.

Hope we do too
