Spurs post-season friendly Melbourne, Australia

I’m not sure anything that we might be paid makes this trip worth it. Little wonder we have so many injuries each season when we get involved in mad schemes like this.
Unless a player on this tour picks up an injury that lasts for months, that's a pretty daft point to make.

I’d argue not.

Lots of injuries are cumulative; if muscles aren’t given time to rest and recover then they are more prone to injury at any given time. An injury might not occur on Wednesday; but it may well occur in a Euros training camp or game.

We are flying exhausted players to the other side of the world for a meaningless game, returning a lot of them just in time to meet up with their international squads.

Any good sports scientist would say it’s not a good idea. Interesting that we are playing Saudi Sportswashing Machine, just about the only PL team with an injury record to rival ours this season.

Money, marketing in Australia (suddenly they have an interest in us due to Ange), and those will be far less effective in pre-season because with Copa & Euros, most PL sides on tours will be B teams ..

It's amazing the number of kids at my son's football team who are now turning up to training wearing Spurs gear.

I agree it's stupid. Although do we actually have many players going to the Euros... Maddison, PEH (Who's barely played and on his way out), any others?
Vicario. Luckily Udogie is injured.

Its Copa America this year too though, so Romero and Bentancur will be playing all through the summer. Luckily Richarlison is injured

Its about fatigue. Ideally players will have a 6 week clear break before starting pre-season. This nonsense, plus the euros and copa america will squeeze that to about 2.

That causes more injuries through the following season and more form like Son's this spring

Don't underestimate the 'Ange Factor' in his homeland. We're milking it for all it's worth.

While it's still milkable. Would have likely toured Italy had Conte not turned out to be such a Cunntte.
Australia has a population about the same as Scotland and football is its 4th or 5th sport. Its hardly the Korea cash cow.

Not quite fella...

Scotland: 5.5 million
Australia: 26 million

And with a massive European immigrant population, and an increase in interest in the Premier League, it could prove to be financially beneficial (not that I agree with this daft friendly).

Take GB's comments with a pinch of salt mate.

I agree with you here. Football is very much a growth sport in Australia and targeting a country who have close to half the population of England and decent GDP growth numbers is definitely commercially worthwhile.
