Son Heung-Min

From Tottenham's best to their worst player: Is Heung-Min Son becoming a liability again?

Heung-Min Son was disappointing once again as Tottenham Hotspur's unbeaten start to the Premier League season ended against Chelsea.

The South Korean was substituted after 64 minutes, in which he managed 35 touches and did not create a single chance or manage a shot on target.

His form has regressed back to the depths of late last season, after a stirring start to the 2016/17 campaign.

With Harry Kane suffering an early season injury, Son stepped up, scoring prolificly including the winner in their sole Champions League win against CSKA Moscow.

After the October international break he has not been the same player, failing to score or provide an assist in nine consecutive matches.

And there in lies the conundrum, that if Son is not adding a goal threat, then he is not contributing positively to Tottenham's performances either.

His woeful form at the end of last season was defined by a limp 45 minutes away at Saudi Sportswashing Machine on the best forgotten 5-1 defeat on the final day of the season.

This even led to speculation he could be sold in the summer, and that seemed like a low point he had recovered from as he began the 2016/17 season in fantastic form.

If Son was 'on fire' in September, the flame has now well and truly been extinguished, and Tottenham are struggling to find a way to re-ignite it.

He is struggling to link up with Harry Kane and lacking the killer edge he had in front of goal early in the campaign.

Only a lack of viable alternatives is keeping him in the Tottenham side right now, but after suffering their first league loss of the season, Mauricio Pochettino may soon be about to ring the changes.

Unlike players like Eriksen, Lamela and Janssen, critics have been very lenient on Son. Just like last season, Son started the season brilliantly but has gone back to being poor again. In fact, he has not been the same player since going to Leverkusen and strangely hugging each and every member of their squad before our match against them in CL. It seems like he has left his form and affection back in Leverkusen.

Body language. Especially when bodies touch.

Funny, that.

Tottenham 5 Swansea City 0: Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen at the double but Son goal steals the show

He has been consistently our worst player in most of our games in the last month or two. Thought he was overall pretty poor again today, but my word what a finish for the goal.

That goal. Incredible technique for that finish. Unstoppable.

Not much mention of it, though. Perhaps if he was two feet taller, Swedish and played in a red shirt, people would go bananas about it.
Beauty, wasn't it? All that Taekwon-Do training came in useful.

(yeah yeah racial profiling blah blah blah)

And Eriksen has been..?

As for Son, not quite sure how far we want to go back, but he changed the game against Spammers and scored a blinder today thanks to Eriksen's feeble effort. He was also constantly looking to take a man on and create!

I appreciated his contribution yesterday too. Kept making a nuisance of himself, scored one out of the top drawer and turned a poor ball from Alli into the set-up for Kane's second. Good effort, I thought.

There all fair comments

This isn't the Eriksen thread.

Since the Emirates Marketing Project game two months ago, I'd say Son has been our worst player in the majority of our games, with the West Ham cameo as the only standout performance in that time.

really? poor today?? I thought his movement and pace were fantastic today and something which none of our other midfielders, attackers, CF give us

He was a bit better after the goal I guess (and it was an excellent goal, no mistake about it). But he continues to frustrate the hell out of me. He does try and take players on which is important but he gets tackled the majority of the times he tries it which is no good.

I'd like to see GKN get a run in the team.

Amid all the celebrations of his goal yesterday, Son gave each player who congratulated him a little kiss on the cheek. All a little refined yet bizarre at the same time.

I really like him, he has the pace and a really good shot with either foot. Needs to try to become a bit more consistent.

Good point, he does some things that are really good and then he does the opposite and messes up. But the thing about is that opposing players do not know what he will do and that makes him a danger to them and a asset to us.
