So, what happened today?

Pete townsend says SOS is the purest pop song ever written.
The funny thing about ABBA is all these "rockers" have nothing but respect for them.

I think any serious musician tends to transcend genre based snobbery and the art of disliking something because it's cool / popular.

I can’t stand them.

I love music, I like pretty much every genre, but there are some bands/groups that are like nails on a chalkboard to me.

Them and Coldplay being the main two.

You have my sympathy.

I get someone's voice not being your cup of tea, or personality, which is often the case with Chris Martin as it's annoying when people speak out about anything. But both artists you've mentioned have contributed a lot to music.

As I've probably mentioned on here it's Oasis I absolutely cannot get on with, but they're popular for a reason even if listening to them is painful for me. The customary shot of whichever Gallagher's stupid face whenever city is on gripes...

There's only two kinds of people in the world, those who like ABBA and those who pretend they don't.
I just don't like the 'cheese' genre altogether, never taken to it. However I'm conflicted, as whenever I go to a bar/club the women always love shaking their you know what to this music so I have no option but to strut my stuff pretending I like it :)...

ABBA is anything but cheese, two huge talented song writers, two wonderful voices, some genius producing along with some very talented musicians.
The image projected on to them is not who they are.
I blame punk for that personally, crap musicians, terrible singers, rip off management throwing shade on talent they could never ever hope to be.

Yeh Abba wasn't cheese, its been positioned as such with time but it was nowhere near. I can't say I am a huge fan but I like some of their stuff. Similar to the Bee Gees and Saturday Night Fever, I am not a disco fan, but there is genius in some of that.

I am ok with Punk when it comes to Pub Punk like Dr Feelgood who came up via skiffle and self taught, really interesting history. Ramones are another for me, absolutely all the time in the world for them. Always felt the Sex Pistols were overrated

Fair play, I know next to nothing about them tbh but i don't like the tunes I've heard for sure -
But that's just my personal preference. The vast majority of people I see get excited as soon as it comes on, so it's the very definition of feel good music for the majority whatever the genre is...

So my son is a huge huge fan of the Phoenix comics and his favourite is Bunny vs Monkey… he has all the books and the best day of his life before today was seeing the guy who created them do a draw along live when he got a signed book and poster but didn’t meet the artist Jamie smart
Anyhow… they host a weekend festival in Oxford Uni. Tickets are harder to get than Glastonbury (I tried for one event Saturday and failed). Luckily we got a Sunday ticket and it was 9.30 today.
Great we thought at last we can join the queue to get a book signed by the artist Jamie … turns out that was free but ticket only and those went in some random event too (we found out Tuesday)
I wrote a polite email asking what the hell happened… they wrote a polite one backing saying sorry
So
Social media being what it is I tracked down the artist and IMd him on Instagram
What a man
He read what i sent but id didn’t ask for anything. But ge clearly loves his fans
He arranged for a private meet and greet today for my son who finally met his hero. The guy gave us 10 minutes of his time. Was so friendly and polite and signed plenty of stuff including some new artwork he did just for my son for a book that comes out in October
I’m now the best dad ever (whilst it lasts)
But the key is social media did something good for once. That rare beast in social media really connecting people

One happy and proud dad
I missed this message earlier. This is brilliant.

My youngest is 9 and is also obsessed with Bunny vs Monkey lol.

They are really silly but I love that there is loads of English slang words and my son is constantly asking what they mean... I think they might be the only series where I notice he is quiet and not playing football or games and I find him sat reading an old one quietly somewhere for the 5 or 6th time ;)
