Saudi Sportswashing Machine

The reaction from a lot of Saudi Sportswashing Machine fans seems not to be disappointment of still belonging to Ashley, but that they didn't get get to be the plaything of a wealthy state.
 
Well, this seems to be dead in the water now.
Guess the poor Geordie fans will have to go back to hoping Joelinton can do more than just score against Spurs
 
The deadlock centred on demands made by the Premier League to clarify the link between the Saudi’s Public Investment Fund and the Saudi state. It is understood that it was this issue, far more than an ongoing row involving piracy of broadcast rights for sporting events which involved the Qatari-owned Bein Sports, that has led to the bid finally being withdrawn.

The PIF was adamant that it is an independent investment vehicle but it appears this did not satisfy the Premier League. After weeks of going back and forth with questions and answers it appears the PIF felt it was going way beyond what was normally asked as part of the Owners and Directors Test. Additionally there was frustration that after initial indications there were no ‘red flags’ with the deal the process was entering its 17tt week – normally it lasts less than a month – with no deadline set and no indication as to when the Premier League would make a decision.

A price of £305 million is understood to have been agreed – down from an original bid of £340 million which was discussed prior to the coronavirus pandemic – with Ashley fully committed to the deal even though the exclusivity agreement he signed had expired at the end of last month meaning he could speak to other bidders.

Ashley will retain a deposit of around £15 million which was paid when the deal was agreed and papers submitted to the Premier League back in April in what became the longest-running takeover saga in English football history.

So to be clear, the reason "penny pinching" Levy opposed the takeover was simply because he wanted to block an ambitious owner taking over another PL club?
If he wasn't "penny-pinching", he wouldn't have raised any objection?

Yeah this is the stuff Levy is great at. He has balls of steel and will unashamedly do what he believes is best for Tottenham Hotspur and f**k everyone else.

That's why I was slightly disappointed in him that he reversed the furlough decision. Once he went in, he should have gone all-in.

He can be frustrating but I love the little bastard.
 
TBH any negativity in the form of calling Levy penny pinching is misplaced. The man who realises wages and transfer fees are black holes in revenue and when you look at the financial state of football everywhere, you tell me he is wrong?

Anyway that aside Saudi regime should never EVER own a Football club here with their values

He’s also just built a billion pound stadium, the most expensive in world football? Hardly pinching the pennies!

Only In the world of football can a man that realises the long term future is commercial stability could get labelled as the odd one.

He realises that investing in infrastructure pays the club back towards long term success. Punts on highly paid players doesn’t.

I get footballs about winning trophies but we will support Spurs regardless so surely someone securing that should be held in high esteem?

I am happy to not sell my soul to murderers from Russia and Thailand for a trophy.

Maybe the Geordies hadn't heard the latest on the Saudi butcher they were hoping would take over their club.

After the slaughtering of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, Potential Benefactor Mohammed Bin Salman sent a similar death squad to my town, Toronto, Canada, to perform a similar role in taking out another of his critics. They were caught in airport customs and, with only one member of the team making it through, abandoned their mission. Doesn't mean it won't be tried again in future. But hey, if this sort of buyer gets a club a world class football team, why worry? He'd probably arrange to have Ashley dealt with, too.
