Re: Sol Campbell

I served him as a waiter a few years ago in a restaurant in Winchester, when he was playing for Pompey. He didn't tip. ****.

Re: Sol Campbell

Tell me you spat in his food?

(Reminder to self: Must stop mixing up my p's and h's)

Haha, unfortunately not. Can't stoop that low. Physically I mean. Otherwise I would have curled one out right on top of his sweet and sour chicken.

A few highlighted points which I think sums this guy up - self indulgent, brick don't sink, self righteous scum...

Sol Campbell, defensive colossus, used to let his football do the talking. Today, it is hard to get a word in edgeways.

We meet in an Italian café near his Georgian townhouse in Chelsea - followed further on with - And then he is off — onto Grade II-listing status, Boris bikes (he thinks the local docking station should be moved) and council tax bands. Make sure the bikes don't de value your house Sol

“the mentality of Labour but the policies of the Conservatives … If you’ve come from nothing, worked your way up, paid all your taxes, got to the top — and someone comes and says they want more tax? That’s not fair.” Cake and eat it Sol, you can't have it both ways...

“It’s like: ‘Hello?’ I’m one of the greatest defenders ever in this country — ever.” His voice is high with disbelief. “I played six competitions for England on the bounce. I was the first black man to lift a trophy at Wembley. But no one cares about that. They just talk about the crap. It’s a sad reflection of some people in football, in the media — and in general life too. It’s like they wish I hadn’t become successful.” Think this paragraph sums the guy up - always the victim closet scouser?

I think he definitely has mental issues, on the edge of a breakdown and he masks it with a false air of magnificent righteousness.

You are kidding me? Is that something he actually said? The guy is completely displaying narccisistic qualities. He definitely seems to have a multiple split personality disorder depending on who he is talking to and dealing with. Definitely an element of mental breakdown involved I would suspect, no other way of explaining the delusional state he has going on in world campbell.

Re: Sol Campbell

Wish someone would sit him down and spell it out to him... Would love the club to come out with something. How can he get away with calling us all racists. A nice retort to the media saying how it is would IMO do nicely.

Re: Sol Campbell

Says some of the first team players and the set up were not to his liking and this is why he left Spurs. I wonder who the players were and why he didn't get along with them?

Darren Anderton, Stephen Carr and Sergei Rebrov because they were all white...allegedly.

fudge this sack of brick. You get a group of 25 lads, you aren't gonna like some of them. Bet he wasn't best mates with everyone at The Scum either. fudging excuse making piece of scum.

Hate to say this though, he was one of the best defenders England have ever produced so, while the quote is big headed, it ain't wrong.

Re: Sol Campbell

I find him very curious. Don't think he has badness in his heart at all, but his seemingly lack of empathy and insight back then and now is just quite weird. He is a quite a weird guy. I'm sure he had his battles, maybe at Tottenham too (I struggle with some of the quite amazingly far right views spouted by some Spurs fans - another thread, another day), but I never witnessed racism towards him, not in public at least, and the Ledley example is a clear one. What he did didn't mean the world stopped revolving, but in that context he did behave like a dog and a lot of Spurs fans, especially the younger ones, were really pretty upset by it. He behaved with a real lack of integrity. Why he can't understand this is beyond me. And now he's surprised people aren't fawning over him? Why would they anyway? He was, after all, a footballer. Not a doctor, not a soldier, not running an aid agency in some horrible place, not an educationalist, not even some daft film star. He may well appreciate art and architecture and what have you - good for him. Loads of people do. Yes, even poor people from Stratford (I used to run a big arts programme in Stratford, so I know). Does that make him special? Not really. Truth is, he does have narcissistic qualities and he's not the sharpest of knives. I don't like him. I don't hate him. But he does seem to be living in some strange past-vortex of weirdness and confusion. Sort of feel sorry for him. Reason I started this thread was his elimination of Spurs from his narrative biog at the beginning of the programme - I was surprised really. I guess we did give him a whole heap of brick, and maybe being on the receiving end of it wasn't that great. I hope the money was worth it.

I think it would be up for debate to say one of the best this country has ever produced. King was certainly an all round better footballer than him regardless of titles won. Adams and Ferdinand would be two other centre halves that were certainly better and that is just from this generation. I would imagine quite a few people feel that Terry is a better player as well.

He was definitely one of the better defenders of his era which to me is as far as it goes - once his pace had started to wane then he was found out as being a pretty basic player which was highlighted in terms of how crap his distribution was when he was in his final years at Arsenal and certainly when he went to Portsmouth. He also never managed to ever put in top performances when he was getting caned by the crowd - something that Terry seems to have no problem doing and he gets a hell of alot more abuse across the board.

Im sure it was tongue in cheek the white players thing but Stephen Carr was one of his best boyfriends. He stuck up for him and said that he would have pretty much done the same thing and that you can't blame him for going. All whilst the club stood by him whilst he recovered from a serious knee injury and enjoyed the fruits of a new contract. Another complete prick to go with Campbell.

This prick was an absolute monster of a player for so many years. I love Ledders and he had the potential to be better than C*ntball but in the cold light of day, you have to say C*ntball produced more. I'd also have had him over Terry and probably Ferdinand. He was also a much better defender than Adams.

As for Carr, well he's an odious little bollox. Anyone who can't see why what Campbell did was so wrong has no business associating themselves with football.

If you click the link I think you'll find they are....

i was on my phone earlier and the link wouldn't open - i read the post above and assumed it was a bit of a 'joke' interview - but fudge me you're right it's legit

:ross:

what a tosser, unbelievable

Re: Sol Campbell

I'll be honest, I don't know why we expend so much energy talking about him. I personally don't give a brick what he says or does. If the club want to take action over his comments, then so be it.

Re: Sol Campbell

it gets to me as he is trying to rewrite history, he knows full well it's never been about racism, only his betrayal, he's been given so many chances to push this garbage publicly but no one has ever taken him to task or asked for our side of the story

You know who should get the job for this, apart from say Richard Keys...
