Roberto Soldado

Re: Official - Soldado

Agree; if nothing else the whole 'only plays for a contract' thing seems a really flawed claim.

Unless he's playing for a contract now. Emirates Marketing Project stop paying a large chunk of his wages at the end of this season and who knows if Levy will pay the full whack or if Ade will take a pay cut. Either way I'm not bothered because he's playing well for us.

Re: Official - Soldado

Hate to say this... Looking at Soldado's movement off the ball - he would have been a success at the goons...

Re: Official - Soldado

The last two games all i have wanted is for Soldado to score. When this goal went in I reckon i was as happy and relieved as him. I love the guy, I reckon he can come good and score 20 for us next year.

Got to love Ade, he really is in charge out there. Also I reckon he controls the squad, if he falls out with TS, then TS loses the dressing room IMHO.

Re: Official - Soldado

So, does he play against Chelsea in the hope he can kick on? Or do we go with a three man midfield, one up top? :-k

It's Tottenham. He will be sitting on the bench for full 90 minutes in the next 5 games..

Considering the next five games, I wouldn't be surprised if we packed the midfield in four of them, meaning going one up top.

thats whats likely happened to AVB init. lets hope that ade stays out of controversial situations like missing that flight - any manager would have a problem dealing with it. hopefully ade has matured and understands that this is his final shot at attaining "legendary status" with the fans- his history goes against him for now.

Re: Official - Soldado

I hope Sunday's goal gives him the confidence to start an end of season run, even something realistic like 7-10 goals will do us good.
Ade can't carry the hole team on his shoulders forever and we need to have two strikers in form with others chipping in to have a real chance of top four.

So far this season we've done the bare minimum to keep within striking distance of the top four but from now on we have to do more, score more and win more.

Re: Official - Soldado

I think the only thing missing from Soldado's game has been his finishing. His movement and his touches have been top notch. Hopefully the goal against Cardiff will spur him on, maybe a brace against Benfica and all of a sudden we'll have two strikers that are flying high on confidence. And I do believe the guy is class, his two goals in the league from open play have both been sublime finishes.

But that's exactly it - his original City contract runs until the end of the season. Yet people have been talking about him only playing for a contract for years.

Re: Official - Soldado

Anyone read that Soldado interview doing the rounds on newsnow? really refreshing to hear a player coming out saying he's determined to make it work and is going to stick it out and prove his worth.

Good stuff Bobby.

Re: Official - Soldado

Other papers would have you believe that we are going to flog him this summer lol. Gotta love the hacks writing whatever they can to fill space in the red tops

Re: Official - Soldado

Tottenham striker Roberto Soldado admits had he been younger, he would have returned to Spain by now.

The 28-year-old joined Spurs in the summer for a then club-record fee of £28million.

However, he has struggled for form with just six league goals to his name and his winner against Cardiff City at the weekend was his first from open play at White Hart Lane.

And Soldado has revealed that had his struggles occurred earlier in his career, it could have forced him to quit the Premier League.

"If all this had happened to me when I was 22, I would have probably returned home after a month, but I believe it is a positive experience for me, my family and for the education of my children," he told Radio Onda Cero.

"I am the only one responsible for my poor form, but I will get better.

"We have a great team and I am convinced we can have a good season."

He admits his winner against Cardiff was important for him, adding: "It was a much-needed goal for me and especially for my team-mates and the fans.

"Despite all the time I have gone without scoring a goal, the support they have given me has been incredible.

"Every time I touch the ball I feel there is great expectation and people are hoping for the best for me - I feel wanted here even though I haven't given them anything at the moment."

I like his mentality a lot.

Re: Official - Soldado

Me too!

It's a tough one for the weekend, because you have to think that Sherwood will be going one up top (meaning Ade) but Soldado must be absolutely chomping at the bit to play.

I love...that he loves us. It's true what he says as well, the games I've seen on TV, when he would miss a chance the crowd immediately starts up with a Soldado chant. =D>

Spot on, and thats how it should be tbh

There's no point in fans groaning when he misses a chance, he isnt doing it on purpose

I remember reading a quote by Crouch saying how much he appreciated it, when he was new to lfc, that the crowd supported him from the very start and never lost faith if he hit a bad patch. It clearly made a big difference to him and I'm glad we're backing Soldado until he comes good.

Re: Official - Soldado

Had a decent game (for him). After every match it says 'some nice link up play'. But that's not nearly enough. Suarez has some nice link up play too. Soldado was supposed to score 25 this season in his sleep. Needs to be scoring. That's what we need and thats what we brought him for. Can't keep relying on our midfielders to score. If he's just a 'link-up' man, and a very expensive one, then we still need a goal-scoring forward.

A 'decent' game? He was outstanding.
