Roberto Soldado

Fair.

I guess I think Soldado is still able to be effective against deep sitting defences, in that he's got the movement to find space in the crowd. My reaction was more against the idea of Remy or even Benteke playing in a side without a specialist playmaker.

Ideally I'd still like us to sign another player in the mould of Bernard for LF to give complete harmony along the front line. Or maybe bring in Osvaldo (and sell both Defoe and Ade) as a creative option for #9. Otherwise we're going to have to hope the passing and movement between the quartet of Paulinho, Dembele, Chadli, Bale gives us enough 'collective creativity'. To me the signing of Chadli suggests AVB things that is viable.

I'm certainly happy to admit my thinking evolves, sometimes within a few days. I hope there's a rationale to it though, rather than inconsitency.

Fair enough, i think a lot of us are guilty of this at times.

@DuncanCastles: Roberto Soldado asks Valencia to let him join Tottenham. #THFC #LFC #VAL #ESP http://t.co/oJc7qeN3o0

Roberto Soldado has asked Valencia president Amadeo Salvo to come to a compromise with Tottenham over a transfer fee. Speaking earlier on Wednesday, Salvo said that "Soldado can go if he wants - for €30million and under our conditions", but has been pressed by the Spain international striker to allow a switch to the Premier League at a more reasonable valuation.

Having lost Soldado's compatriot David Villa to Atletico Madrid, Tottenham are increasingly confident of completing what would constitute a club-record transfer deal. Soldado, 28, has scored 59 goals in 101 La Liga appearances for Valencia over three seasons and has six goals from his 11 full internationals for Spain.

"It's not a lie to anybody that we've been looking for a striker to strengthen our squad and to have more strength in depth,” said Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas this week. "Roberto is one of the players we have been following and his career speaks for itself. He's a great striker. But there isn't a deal being struck at the moment, it's just interest and conversations."

Is this actually true, as at the age of 28 he has 11 apps for Spain. Hardly Relevant to a goal to game ratio.
read it somewhere that he is currently their first choice, guess that is nonsense though looking at the caps

Now we know why the meeting took place in such a public place, it was Levys cunning plan to unsettle the player and get him to instigate a move. Good work Mr Levy, good work.

Tottenham confident of sealing Soldado deal as striker considers transfer request

The Valencia striker is keen on a move to the Premier League, with boss Andre Villas-Boas desperate to strengthen his attacking line-up before the start of the 2013-14 campaign

EXCLUSIVE
By Greg Stobart

Tottenham remain confident of signing Roberto Soldado from Valencia in a £24 million [€28m] deal as the striker pushes for a move to White Hart Lane, Goal can reveal.

Valencia rejected Spurs' take-it-or-leave it bid of £22m [€26m] plus add-ons for Soldado on Tuesday but the offer remains on the table.

Club president Amadeo Salvo has publicly insisted the Spanish side will hold out for the £25m [€30m] clause in Soldado's contract - but the rest of his board want to accept Tottenham's offer.

Franco Baldini, the Tottenham technical director, flew back to London from Valencia on Tuesday without an agreement for the 28-year-old Spain international and Spurs have no plans to increase their bid.

But contrary to reports in Spain, the deal is far from dead, not least because Soldado has expressed his desire to move to the Premier League club.

The former Getafe man may hand in a transfer request as he looks for force through the move to White Hart Lane.

Reports in Spain have suggested that Soldado has already agreed a salary package worth £3m-a-year to play for Andre Villas-Boas' side.

Villas-Boas is desperate to strengthen his strikeforce this summer and has already missed out on David Villa and Christian Benteke.

Soldado has been a long-term target for Tottenham but chairman Daniel Levy has until now been reluctant to smash the club's transfer record on a player with little sell-on value due to his age.

Spurs, however, are keen to back Villas-Boas as they target a top-four finish next season, and to convince star man Gareth Bale of their ambition.

They have already signed midfielder Paulinho from Corinthians for a club record £17m and winger Nacer Chadli from FC Twente for £6m.

Soldado has been one of the most prolific goalscorers in La Liga in recent years and netted 24 times in 35 league appearances last term. He has also scored six goals in 11 international appearances for Spain.

If this goes through at the prices quoted this summer once and for all puts to bed the myth that Levy does not back his managers financially. Two record transfers and (maybe) three additions to the first team in one window.

Can the Valencia board of directors force this transaction to go through? As a unanimous verdict? Seems pretty lame to me only Amadeo Salvo has the final and only say/approval.

He probably thinks he can out fox levy and call his bluff ....:ross: ... Cue Soldado signing lengthy contract to extend at Valencia

NO NO NO, if this goes through ... someone show Redknapp behind the scenes talking about how he wasnt backed in getting Kenwyn Jones and here is this AvB portugeezer getting 17 mil for some unknown brazilian and some Spanish chap thats competing with Torres.

Would have won the league if I was backed etc ...

Nah i liked Harry.

Soldado is on 11.5k a week at Valencia apparently.

Not sure about your source, but this one disagrees:

VCF willing to offer Raúl Albiol a four year contract, on same salary as Soldado (€1.8m per season); the highest paid player at VCF. (PD)
