Roberto De Zerbi

lol! Plenty of people are saying ‘hiring a guy who takes a while to bed in when you need instant results is an…interesting choice’. As always my mind goes to ‘surely the decision makers have thought this through’

Let’s see if it pays off, and that we aren’t all sitting here in 7 games time wondering why we hired the guy who takes a while to bed in while we head off to the Championship.

If you have learned nothing about those two, it must surely be that they think 'something' through, but I am not at all sure it is connected with what's best for this football club.

People would no doubt forget about his off-field activities if he brought the glory days back to WHL, just like how Gazza got cheered to the rafters when he appeared for our “Legends” team at the test event for our new stadium despite his litany of crimes over the decades…

Inexcusable behaviour, but Gascoigne has repeatedly sought treatment for addiction issues, and has never received the full mental health treatment he needed. He has ADHD, depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder, plus OCD. He has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.

I am not excusing his deplorable actions, I am pointing out that this sort of comparison is IMO very wide of the mark as there are an enormous amount of differences between the two men.

I think this is exactly the cse, and that De Zerbi has squeezed their lemons for a fatter pile of wonga than they wanted to fork over. Putting aside all opinions, speaking coldly, IF this was the guy they wanted, then they should've fudging squeezed their lemons for the guy before Tudor...they are just pathetic IMO.
Maybe they did but he turned us down. Tudor failed so they have had to offer stupid money to get him know. What I do know it has turned into a cluster fudge

It seemed like when Frank went they wanted de Zebri permanently but he wasn't keen to take it until the summer unless seriously persuaded (ie money). So then they went down the interim route thinking could get away with it and then come back in the summer for de Zebri or another top candidate who is available.

But now the interim experiment has failed and they are desperate and have had to bend over for de Zebri. The sad thing is as you allude to, were they to have paid up for him at the time of Frank's dismissal and then I would have been really comfortable with us being close to safe already with better results against Palace and Forest. Whereas now, it really is touch and go as he has so little time to get it right.

But I will say, I will feel slightly more confident of us staying up with him at the helm. Forgetting all the noise about his 'character', I think he is a good coach who is better suited to this squad than both Frank and Tudor....

I hope you're right.

I am not sure. I have heard from people who worked with him at Brighton that as good a coach as he is, there is a heavy price to be paid in terms of his attitude and the chaos he brings/creates.

I think these problems would arise further down the line - Let's just try and get over the line for the next 7 games and then we can look forward to the next managerial merry go round :) .....

Yup, the double standards of a fanbase who cheered Gascoigne to the rafters when he appeared for our “Legends” team at that test event for our new stadium despite him being guilty of decades of domestic abuse amongst his many other criminal convictions.

And let us not forget that he admitted racially abusing a black security guard employed to protect him.

He used to be a legend to me (I was at Wembley in 1991) now I just think he is pathetic and try not to think about him at all.

We should also remember that Di Zerbi took seven games to win his first match at Brighton, I wonder how long it will take this time.

Its the fact that Gazzas life and conditions were allowed to feature in his story is where the privilege comes in my dear friend. This isn't about Gazza himself persay or Mason. It's how the media frames people and how the fans are then able to find ways not to hate their heroes or hate them.

This is one for me and you to discuss over a beer next time we meet up my brother

On RDZ I think Spurs have gone all in for the hand. They know an interim hasn't worked. I reckon they have said we will give you all the time you need to rebuold and to get us promoted again. Here's 5 years and more moeny than you've seen.

Fukin gamble but it's as likely to work as all the other brick they've tried
